This route was planned by komoot.
A song on the radio this morning, came to the realization that the jam needs the toast. Apparently I need the Rheingau because I'm traveling here again. 🤷♀️ That was a very nice tour through the Rauenthal vineyards of Baiken, Nonnenberg... 🍇 The paths through the vineyards led up to the Bubenhäuser Höhe, with a wonderful view of the Mainz Basin on the left and the Middle Rhine Valley on the right. On the way back we had a delicious potato and mountain cheese soup. What a day...🤩😎
In March 2024, komoot started displaying a large, annoying message every time you opened the app, telling you to get outside for at least 15 minutes each week. Fifteen minutes a week for a hiking app—it's laughable! 🤷🏼♂️ Well, our first hike for "Weeks in a Row" back then was the Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling Loop. So it was quite fitting that we did it again today for "Week 100 in a Row." The weather was pretty decent. Plenty of blue skies and sunshine with temperatures around 8 degrees Celsius. The paths were a bit muddy in places, but it was fairly easy to avoid them. Riesling loops are great any time of year. By the way, did you know? The "Rauenthaler Baiken" is world-famous. At the 1867 Paris World's Fair, a Rauenthaler Baiken was named "the best wine in the world." The geological peculiarity of Bubenhäuser Höhe: limestone lies at the surface in the area around the hilltop. It was deposited in a shallow subtropical sea approximately 20 million years ago and uplifted along with the Taunus Mountains. From the Riesling loop Rhine and Reben I went 5 km by car to Rauenthal on my 7th Riesling loop. We parked on Wiesweg (near the sports field) and set off on the 6 km long tour anti-clockwise. We went through the vineyards up to the Nonnenschlösschen and on to the highest point and highlight of the tour: the Bubenhäuser Höhe. A great picnic area with a panoramic cinema, a shelter, various benches and a panoramic lounger - really very nice, even if we didn't have picnic weather today. Overall, there were really great views on this route: meadow slopes and orchards, behind them the wooded southern slopes of the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park, and to the front the view opens up into the Rhine-Main area. Past the Rauenthal state domain we returned to the starting point. You can find my other Riesling bows here: https://www.komoot.de/collection/2437723/-14-riesling-schleifen-rheingau
Despite little to no sun, the Riesling round currently (October 15th) offers a true splendor of colors.
Then “Rauenthaler Baiken”, a hike almost exclusively through the vineyards. The wine tasting stand was closed.
What a lovely, relaxed Sunday ride 😎 First it goes uphill and then to the Rauenthal wine tasting stand (take your own picnic in your backpack 😉) and then a beautiful viewpoint and further downhill through the vineyards back to the car park. The weather was perfect - like a mini-vacation 😁
Fortunately, the weather held up so we were able to hike a second Riesling loop today. Here is the description of outdoor active: The path leads through the pleasant locations of Rothenberg, Wülfen and Nonnenberg up to the Nonnenschlösschen. The nuns from the nearby Tiefenthal monastery gave the late classicist villa its name. Once you reach the wine tasting stand, the Rauenthal winemakers invite you to taste the elegantly mineral wines from the slate vineyards. The highest point and highlight is the Bubenhäuser Höhe. A picnic area with a panoramic cinema: first meadow slopes and orchards, behind them the wooded southern slopes of the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park, and to the front the view opens up into the Rhine-Main area. Enjoy the panoramic view before heading back into the valley past the Rauenthal state domain. October 17, 2023
A tour through the vineyards. With slightly better weather, there were also beautiful views. This time, the grapes were harvested by hand and without a harvester, as there was a lot of waste. Cracked grapes allow mold to thrive.
