This route was planned by komoot.
An impressive hike that took me through the volcanic past of this beautiful region in windy weather today. The Schlossberg with the Waldeck ruins marks the beginning of the basalt cones to be climbed. Even though I am already familiar with the site, I was once again very impressed, both by the masonry and by the magnificent view. Some of the former volcanoes can be discovered, especially the Rauhe Kulm with its striking appearance and its observation tower. Even if the Rauhe Kulm is not on the route today, it remains a constant companion of my hike. It continues through the beautiful landscape to the Anzenstein, from which you also have great views of the surrounding area and the Rauhe Kulm, after you have mastered the short but steep climb to the summit with rock and cross. Back down, the path leads to Kemnath. I see very little of the former monastery, as I am drawn further through the wide valley plain with its many ponds, before the highest peak of this tour, the Armesberg with over 700 meters, awaits me. The small chapel on the summit is closed, but a small viewpoint below offers fantastic views of the Kemnath region - and the Rauhe Kulm. As I continue to hike through the beautiful landscape, there are great views of the Steinwald and the Fichtelgebirge. The "Platte" with the Oberpfalzturm can also be seen, the highest elevation in the Steinwald at almost 950 meters. Past the ruins of the Zieslerhaus, the path leads through beautiful forest, before the forest is left behind after a hollow path and the Schlossberg and immediately behind it the Rauhe Kulm reappear. A great sight and a short time later Waldeck is reached again. A really great tour with interesting information boards about the geological history of the region and all this in a beautiful landscape! Only the asphalt portion could have been a little less, which was easy to bear due to the views.
...on the way along the GEO adventure trail in Kemnath. Lucky again with the weather...😊
