The hike begins and ends at the Oberalppass train station. At the nearby car park you will come across a lighthouse in the middle of the mountains. It is a replica of the lighthouse that used to mark the mouth of the Rhine in the Netherlands. This symbolizes the connection…

This route was planned by komoot.
Thanks to the blueberry hunt, we needed about 2 hours longer than planned. About 5 hours is about right. 🙂
From the Oberalp Pass via Pazolastock it's almost 800 m ascent. A breather before continuing to the Badushütte and downhill to the source of the Rhine is inevitable with a view of the 3000m peaks. The path leads back to the Oberalp Pass via the 4-Quellen-Weg. 🥾🏔
From the Oberalp Pass, the path to the Pazolastock is rocky and sometimes steep. Cowbells in the distance surround the mountains. Surrounded by 3000m peaks, the highest and most strenuous part of the tour is done after a good 3.5km walk. After a breather, there is a last short climb that requires a lot of sure-footedness. From here we continue towards Badushütte. From here it is only a few minutes to the source of the Rhine. The ringing of the cowbells is drowned out by rushing streams & after a total of 6km the source is reached. The way back is started via the 4-Quellen-Weg. A few meters of altitude can be overcome here, but hardly worth mentioning. Almost 10 km later the parking lot is reached again. 🌄🏞️🌊 Parking 🅿️: Parking spaces available at the Oberalp Pass
Circular hike from the Oberalp Pass to the Pazolastock. In the upper part, the path crosses the steep mountainside several times. After the summit with a wonderful panoramic view, the path leads over the summit ridge to Lake Tuma (good shoes and a head for heights recommended). From here, an easy hiking trail takes you back to the Oberalp Pass.
From midday today, there are two of us on the road. We take the train to the Oberalp Pass. I want to go to the source of the Rhine today. We are a little late for our circular hike. But since the weather seems to be stable for a while and daylight lasts a long time at this time of year, we set off. At the lighthouse, we head towards the Pazolastock and the Badushütte, i.e. we follow the "Pazolastock-Rheinquelle-Weg". The gradient quickly becomes a little steeper, but we make good progress. Further up, we come across isolated snowfields, some of which have to be crossed. Suddenly, the view opens up to the Urserental and Andermatt, as well as the surrounding Alpine panorama. You have to be careful up to the summit of the Pazolastock, as the path is a little exposed in places but easy to walk. A few meters in altitude are already lost on the way down to the Badushütte. In the hut, there is time for a short stop and a chat with the hut warden. Soon the view opens up to the wonderful Tomasee. What a fantastic picture in the evening sun - just wow... That's probably what the few people who are setting up their tents on the green meadow up by the lake think too. But we have to move on because we want to catch the train at 7.50 p.m. In addition to countless yellow anemones, alpine roses, gentian and much more are blooming. At the end of the hike I finally spot the advertised Turk's cap lily.
After a night on the Oberalp Pass, we set off this morning at around 6:45 am to the source of the Rhine. Later I made a climb to a mountain very close by. If you always make sure that you are up early like I am, then of course it is also possible to allow yourself a few spooks at the summit cross. On the descent I met the first hiker and was back around 11:30 a.m. and as a reward I got 5 minutes of tureen. Is by Maggi a very good idea on the whole. 😂 Now it's on to Valais. I won't be able to do the 3000er planned for today because of the somewhat longer spontaneous tour
