Generally, trails in natural areas like Landschapspark Haspengouw are dog-friendly, but dogs are usually required to be kept on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers. Always check for specific local regulations or signage at the trailhead regarding pets.
The best time to hike the Grandloon - Orange hiking trail largely depends on your preferences. Spring offers beautiful wildflowers and mild temperatures, while autumn provides stunning fall foliage. However, specific attractions or facilities within the park might have their own charges. Always respect local regulations and private property.
The trail covers a variety of terrain typical for the Haspengouw region, which is known for its rolling hills and agricultural landscapes. You can expect a mix of paved paths, unpaved dirt trails, and possibly some gravel sections. The moderate difficulty suggests some inclines and descents, but nothing overly technical.

You'll pass by the historic Sint-Odulfus Church, the unique Reading Between the Lines (See-Through Church), and the intriguing Twijfelgrens Sculpture by Fred Eerdekens. The region is also known for its diverse flora, particularly during spring and summer.
A signposted walk that starts in the center of Borgloon at the open-air theater Klappoel. We followed the orange cross. Once through the pedestrian tunnel you can follow the arrows left or right. We opted for the left: in this way you will come across the See Through Church at the beginning of the walk. In this way we hoped to be ahead of the crowds and luckily that was the case. Along the way you will come across various fruit machines where you can get delicious fresh strawberries, berries, chilled apple juice, ... from 'the wall'. A nice walk in the fruit region of Borgloon. If you want to admire all the works of art in the open air in Borgloon, it is best to jump on your bike: there are two mapped out cycling routes: 28.7 km and 42.3 km.

We wanted to take a look at the blossoms and drove to Borgloon on this last day of our midweek in Limburg. We found a place for our car at the Sports Hall and we went to the Tongersestraat to join the walk. But first we went to fill up with fuel and went to a brasserie for a light lunch. Then we looked at a few interesting buildings and started on the orange walk. According to the information we had looked up, this was a nice varied walk that would take us through meadows and orchards and over Roman cobblestones to the village of Grootloon. And that was right. After a short detour through Borgloon we walked through meadows and along orchards. A nice walk through a green environment with many climbs and descents. The see-through church and the blossoms were not missing, as well as an explanation of the Roman presence in this region.
Very nice wandling, but .... Battery flat ... explanation will follow later ... first wa drink πππΊπΊπΊ
On such a beautiful sunny day as today, it was time to head for Borgloon. What a blissful walk this was! Not too many people on the road. Only at the see-through church people were lining up to take pictures. Just past this monument you will find a cozy outdoor cafe between the plantations to have a drink (see photos). Halfway through the trail there was a vending machine where you could choose delicious fresh fruit. Strawberries, raspberries, currants, blackberries. For β¬ 2.50 a small (but well filled) tray. Larger containers are of course also available. Had a great time! Only 1 word went through my head during the walk and that was "beautiful". What a breathtaking route. Beautiful landscapes. Along the way you will regularly come across benches to relax and enjoy the peace and the song of the birds. There is also a nice elevated platform as a lookout point (see photos). In short, this route is highly recommended!
In the center of Borgloon we leave through the fruit region with the blossoms at this time of year. Beautiful views and passage past the see-through church.
