This route was planned by komoot.
This tour is rated as difficult for mountain biking. It requires very good fitness and advanced riding skills due to significant elevation changes and varied terrain. Some sections may be steep enough to require pushing your bike.
The terrain is quite varied. You'll encounter a significant mix of asphalt (around 43.84%) and forested/wild trails (around 45.51%). There are also sections of gravel roads and smaller path segments. For experienced riders, the descent can include the technical Millstätter Hometrail T.48 (S2).
Yes, the tour is named after three commercially run huts that offer excellent cuisine and stunning views: the Alexanderhütte, the Millstätter Hut (the highest point at 1,876 meters), and the Schwaiger Hut. These are ideal spots for a rest and to enjoy the panoramic views.
The best time to ride this tour is typically from late spring (May/June) through early autumn (September/October), when the weather is stable and the trails are clear of snow. Always check local weather conditions before you go, especially for alpine areas.
While specific parking details are not provided, the tour is part of the nock/bike region. Typically, tours in this area start and end near towns or designated trailheads with parking facilities. It's advisable to check local tourism information for the most convenient starting points and parking options near Millstatt am See or the Nockberge mountains.
While dogs are generally allowed on many trails in the Nockberge region, specific rules for this particular mountain bike tour are not detailed. Given the challenging nature of the trail and potential for technical sections, it might not be suitable for all dogs. If you bring a dog, it should be well-behaved, accustomed to long rides, and kept on a leash, especially near huts and livestock.
As a designated nock/bike trail, there are generally no specific permits or entrance fees required to ride the Three Huts Tour itself. However, always be aware of any local regulations or potential fees for parking areas. The nock/bike region promotes legal mountain biking on its extensive network.
Yes, the route is part of a larger network. While riding the Three Huts Tour, you will also pass through sections of the Millstätter Alm Tour | nock/bike Tour 49, Schluchtweg - 193, and Wanderweg 194, among others. For skilled riders, there's also the option to descend via the Nockbike Millstätter Hometrail.
The tour offers spectacular scenery throughout. You can expect wonderful views of the Nockberge mountains and fantastic panoramic views of Millstätter See from various points, especially from the huts along the route. The alpine landscape provides a picturesque backdrop for the entire journey.
Given its 'difficult' rating, you should bring appropriate mountain biking gear, including a well-maintained bike, helmet, gloves, and protective eyewear. Essential items include plenty of water, snacks, a repair kit, first-aid supplies, and layers of clothing suitable for changing alpine weather. A GPS device or a map with the route is also highly recommended.
Yes, the Three Huts Tour | nock/bike Tour 48 is designed as a loop trail. It forms a circuit around the three huts, allowing you to start and finish at the same point.
On the way up to the Millstätterhütte there were beautiful flowers to admire. From the Alexanderhütte the fields were like a colorful sea of flowers all the way to the Millstätterhütte. The gravel road was covered with a layer of dust which had turned into a layer of mud due to the rain.
Today we climbed the Milldtstätter Hütte (1880m), a 3-hut mountain bike tour, up the mountain 😅🚲⛰️, a stop at the top 🍰☕️, and then back down to the valley 😄
Attention: The 36a mountain path is forbidden for bikes. I ran in both directions. Especially since it has been littered with rubble due to the heavy rain recently. I would therefore not recommend the path.
