This route was planned by komoot.
The trail is located in the Gewestbos (Regional Forest) in Ravels, Belgium. You can typically find parking at the main access points to the Gewestbos, which serves as the trailhead for this route.
This trail is classified as moderate, requiring good fitness. It features varied terrain, including narrow, winding sandy paths, so sturdy hiking shoes are essential. While generally accessible, it's best for those who are sure-footed.
You'll encounter a diverse mix of surfaces. The route is predominantly unpaved with sandy paths, but also includes sections of gravel, asphalt, and paved roads. A defining feature is the abundance of small wooden bridges and attractive boardwalks that help you cross streams and wet areas.
The trail offers a rich landscape. You'll pass through deciduous and coniferous forests, grasslands, and heathlands. Notable spots include the tranquil Zwart Goor heathland picnic area, glimpses of the Klotgoor Heath Pond, and a beautiful view of Kesseven from the View of Kesseven. There's also the idyllic Picnic area 'Onder d'Eike'.
Autumn is highly recommended for this trail, as the trees display vibrant colors and temperatures are fresh. In summer, you might spot dragonflies around Kesseven.
Yes, the Bruggeskeswandeling is generally dog-friendly. However, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially when passing through heathlands or areas with wildlife, to ensure their safety and respect the natural environment.
Typically, there are no entrance fees or permits required to access the Gewestbos Ravels for recreational activities like hiking. It's a public forest area, but always respect local regulations and signage regarding nature conservation.
Yes, the route overlaps with several other paths. You'll find sections that are part of the Streek-GR Noorderkempen, Kijkverdriet Rode vierkant, PiereLiereBinkenpad Rood, and Natuurloop Ravels groen, among others.
While there are picnic areas like 'Onder d'Eike' along the route, for cafes or pubs, you might need to venture slightly off the main trail. A unique option is to take the free ferry (available May to September) across the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal to reach taverns like Burcht Hertog Jan.
The trail is named 'Bruggeskeswandeling' (Little Bridges Walk) for a reason – you'll cross many small wooden bridges and attractive boardwalks. Keep an eye out for the diverse flora and fauna, including amphibians, insects, and birds like the tawny owl and nightjar, especially in the varied habitats.
The trail is well-marked with white rectangular signs featuring a red triangle and an arrow, making navigation straightforward. You'll also find numerous picnic benches along the route for convenient resting spots.
A new year, a blank year. Let's start counting again. I wanted to take a walk, in a new area and not too long and not too short. So I ended up on the Bruggeskes route near Ravel in Belgium. What a beautiful path. Very varied with here and there fens and lots of bridges. Hence the name. There was another shorter path with ravens through it and therefore many ravens made of wood. Almost at the end a lot of pans were hanging and it turned out to be a pots and pans orchestra. All in all a very nice walk. The head of the Komoot year is finished. Happy New Year to everybody.
Beautiful walk if you like forest and nature. Really recommended 😉
The Regional Forest of Ravels, 930 hectares in size, with a very varied landscape of coniferous forests, beech forests, birch forests and oak forests, fens and heathland: that was my goal today. A whole afternoon of PURE NATURE. I chose the longest walking route through the forest, namely the 'Bruggeskeswandeling'. This walk promises to be the most beautiful forest walk in the province of Antwerp. And truly: the forests are sometimes almost fairytale-like, with vast green carpets of mosses, beautiful fens looming behind yet another of the many bridges that span the clear watercourses that run through the entire area... benches that are located at beautiful viewpoints or shady picnic areas... that one shower that requires some shelter (fortunately the trees still have dense foliage) cannot dampen the pure feeling of nature I get here...
A walk with the parents - wonderfully cool in the Ravelse woods.
A very cloudy morning, unlike the previous days. But what a pleasure to walk only on unpaved forest paths, nowhere a strip of asphalt or concrete, beautiful... We also noticed at least two new boardwalks. The Boshuisje was unfortunately closed.
Lovely quiet area for walking. Only the sound of birds and the occasional dampening of your shoes because the path is not yet completely dry. I had to retrace my steps once because the planned road was too deeply flooded.
What medieval weather, I felt like I had landed in a picture of the red knight, so gray and dark. I also appeared to have started the walk a bit too late, because I walked the last part in the dark. I secretly hoped to encounter an evil forest witch, but alas. 🤨
Very nice trip, an exciting forest. Very worthwhile to cross the border from Tilburg.
