The Auerbacher Schlossweg follows the green A1 route markings. What can I say, a really magical little circular route with a steep climb to the castle. Otherwise the path mostly runs in the shade. It's a shame that the Burgschänke doesn't have any food, I would have liked to treat myself to a cool blonde drink. The view from the castle was really nice and I also liked the princely camp and the hermitage. So, recommended for hiking 😁👍🏼
I have wanted to walk the Auerbach Castle Trail for a long time, and today was the perfect day. It is well marked with the A1. https://www.bergstrasse-odenwald.de/detail/id=5f15410f0e3c1c0fedd159c8 It starts at the Fürstenlager car park (it is very small, however, there are still parking spaces in Bachgasse, by the church and hidden in Weidgasse, but it is hopelessly crowded on weekends, so get there early!). I don't go down Bachgass', but make a little detour past the Bergkirche before I walk past the Blauer Aff, the old villas, the memorial to the World Wars and then tackle the climb to Auerbach Castle. From the Waldschlösschen it goes up to the castle on beautiful paths. I walk around the castle, which is closed, and now walk through beautiful beech forest on wide paths down into the Mühltal to Gesundbrunnen. Actually, I want to deviate from the official route and take the path parallel to the Fuchstrail - but it has recently been closed. (I don't see any prohibition sign at the top, so what now?) So I take the Wilhelmsweg up to the Hermitage in the Fürstenlager State Park. The Hermitage has been beautifully restored with its thatched roof and bark trim. On the other side of the valley, the view continues from Krehberg to Starkenburg and far back to Mannheim. Then I climb down to the other beautiful old buildings via the Friendship Temple and pass the Swan Pond and then soon back to the car park. The speed can't be right today, I was walking quite slowly because I thought it was so beautiful. CONCLUSION: Fürstenlager is always beautiful, I never get bored, the climb to Auerbach Castle is on beautiful paths, it's just a shame that the castle is so rarely open these days (only when the tavern is open). https://www.schloesser-hessen.de/de/fuerstenlager
A varied 8 km circular hike from the Bergstrasse into the Odenwald with highlights such as the Fürstenlager State Park, Auerbach Castle and rewarding views. On the Bensheim-Auerbach adventure hiking trail, we hike across the varied landscape of the "balcony edge" of the Odenwald. Along the way, we are rewarded with unique views for the climbs of up to 200 meters. From Auerbach Castle, you can see far across the Rhine plain, the Bergstrasse and the neighboring Melibokus. From the hill of the Hermann Schäfer Oak, we look north to Auerbach Castle and south to Starkenburg above Heppenheim. To the east, we see the transmitter on the 576 meter high Krehberg in the Odenwald. The idyllic Fürstenlager Park with its diverse and old tree populations marks the end of our hike. bergstrasse-odenwald.de/detail/id=5f15410f0e3c1c0fedd159c8
Long planned and finally realized today: A spring-like walk in beautiful weather with Günter along the Auerbach Castle Trail. A true experience for all nature and hiking enthusiasts who are also interested in life and culture in the Middle Ages. The imposing castle ruins, the impressive hermitage, and the idyllic park grounds of the former Fürstenlager are nestled in a beautiful forest and meadow landscape that deserves no credit (five ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me). Thank you, Günter, for accompanying me on this tour 👍. Thanks Markus, a beautiful tour with lots of views and lots to see! The pictures speak for themselves.
Varied circular route on the mountain road, through forests and on the sunny slopes of the Odenwald. With decent inclines, it goes gently through forest and fields with cultural encounters along the way. The hike began at the small mountain church in Auerbach, went through the Fürstenlager Bensheim state park, where you passed the Hermitage, a wooden house paneled with bark. Then we went to the Goethe Fountain. From the fountain it's a steep climb to Auerbach Castle. From Auerbach Castle, the hike goes serpentine back down to Auerbach. This hike offers fabulous far-reaching views. From Auerbach Castle you can see far across the Rhine plain, the Bergstrasse and the neighboring Melibokus.
Since I work in Bensheim and the constant commute is annoying, I sometimes just stay there. Today after work, I went for a lovely walk: first through the Auerbach vineyards, then up to the castle ruins of Schloss Auerbach. Unfortunately, it was already closed (admission only until 5 p.m.), but the walk around it was also beautiful. From there, I followed a narrow path back to town. Forest, vineyards, and castle ruins – perfect for unwinding! 🌿✨
