In winter as in summer a worthwhile excursion destination in the rearmost part of the Diemtig valley. A piece of the Bernese Oberland without mass tourism.

Trail Reviews

Geru
August 31, 2024, Diemtigtal: Grimmialp, Senggibach,Stiereberg, Alp Niedegg

The path goes straight up to the old rest of the Spillgerte, but it is really steep. Not for sandals, Birkenstocks and sneaker hikers. Through forest with lots of moss. Almost at the top. An Alp Grimmi alpine cheese dairy with very, very good alpine cheese and goat cheese. My recommendation.

A very beautiful circular trail, allowing four hours depending on your fitness. If you walk in the direction described, you'll climb approximately 800 meters along the Sengibach stream to Alp Grimmi and then continue to the pass. An easier option is to take the chairlift from Grimmialp and then walk to mid-elevation toward Alp Grimmi or Grimmifurggi, then return in the opposite direction. In summer, this route also allows for later walks in the shady forest.

The tour starts at the Grimmialp chairlift parking lot. First, you follow the road for a short distance, then turn onto a beautiful nature trail. After a brief, leisurely stretch, the long ascent begins, sometimes on narrow forest paths, sometimes on wide gravel tracks, or steep and rocky trails. After passing the Grimmi alpine pasture, the trail continues uphill until a small nature path branches off to the right towards the Grimmiwasser spring. This short detour is definitely worthwhile to enjoy the magnificent view from the spring, take a short break, and recharge. After a short distance, you rejoin the main path, and the climb is almost over. You cross a small plateau with cows and alpacas to reach another small alpine pasture. Here, the descent begins, a varied route along gravel tracks, forest paths, and across meadows. A short section follows the same path as the ascent, and then continues along the slope above the valley back to the starting point.
