This route was planned by komoot.
This is considered a difficult gravel ride, requiring very good fitness. You'll encounter varied terrain, including heavy sand lanes and technical singletracks, where pushing your bike might be necessary in some sections.
The route features a diverse mix of surfaces. Expect significant portions of unpaved roads (around 30.1 km), asphalt (26.1 km), paved sections (16.4 km), and compacted gravel (6.99 km). You'll also ride through sand paths, cobblestones, singletracks, and wide forest paths, including heavy sandy strips in areas like the Chaamse Bos.
The ride offers several notable spots. You'll pass through the windy polders around Breda, wooded areas near Teteringen and Oosterhout, and a singletrack section through one of Breda's beautiful nature reserves where you might spot large herds of buffalo. Highlights include the Terheijden Gravel Path, the Dordrechtseweg cobblestone section, and the Meeldreef in Ulvenhoutse Forest. Some sections are even considered among the most beautiful gravel roads in the Netherlands.
The autumn season is ideal for this gravel ride. The cooler weather, firm trails, and spectacular views with vibrant natural beauty enhance the experience, making it a particularly celebrated time for gravel biking in this region.
The ride typically starts from Kamu Coffee & Bikes. You can usually find parking options in the vicinity of this starting point in Breda. It's advisable to check local parking regulations and availability beforehand, especially on busy days.
Yes, the ride starts at Kamu Coffee & Bikes, which is a great spot for pre-ride coffee or post-ride refreshments. The route also passes through various towns and natural areas, so you may find other local amenities along the way, particularly in larger villages.
While many outdoor areas in the Netherlands are dog-friendly, this specific route includes sections through nature reserves and private lands where rules for dogs can vary. It's best to check local signage along the trail for specific regulations regarding dogs, especially leash requirements, to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone and to protect wildlife.
Generally, you do not need specific permits or to pay entrance fees to ride this gravel route. However, some sections might pass through privately managed estates or nature areas where specific rules apply. Always respect local regulations and private property signs.
Given the varied and challenging terrain, including heavy sand and cobblestones, a dedicated gravel bike with wider tires (e.g., 40mm+) and a robust tread pattern is highly recommended. This setup will provide better comfort, traction, and stability across the diverse surfaces.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Vijf Eiken route, Spinola, and the Grenslandpad - 11, among others. You might also encounter parts of the EuroVelo 4 - Central Europe Route - part Netherlands and the Schelde-Rheinroute - 04 - Rijsbergen - Hilvarenbeek.
Yes, the Kamu Gravel Ride autumn edition is designed as a circular route, starting and ending at Kamu Coffee & Bikes, allowing you to experience the diverse landscapes without needing a shuttle.
Beautiful ride, especially in the beginning. The part through the Chaamsebossen is too popular. Due to the increased water level, it is almost one big mud ride there. Your gravel bike will not be happy with that at all. So be careful not to plan the ride after rainfall. But again, the first 2 hours from starting point Kamu are worth it.
My first fall ride this year. And what kind. The area around Breda was still unknown to me from the bike. Found this ride at bjornrides.cc here on komoot. Tough trip, lots of off-road parts. I did not expect that! Super round.
