This route was planned by komoot.
The fascination of the Bärenschützklamm (14km, 800m elevation gain) lies in the long wooden steps and paths along the polished rock faces. If you want a parking space at the top (P3), you'll have to get up early. If you don't start until 11:00, like we did, you'll be swarmed by unfit people who totally overestimated themselves and underestimated the tour. Some are on their last legs, and you can overtake in a few places. Nevertheless, it's a very nice and worthwhile tour.
From Mixnitz-Bärenschützklamm train station, head towards Bärenschützklamm via the Bärenschützweg. At the gorge entrance, cross the gorge footbridges and climb the ladder through the rocks up towards the "Guter Hirte" alpine inn. If you want, you can take a break here and enjoy the good, warm food. From the junction at Guter Hirte, turn back towards the Mixnitz car park via the Prügel hiking trail. The gorge is very easy to reach in just a few minutes on foot from the train station and public transport stop. There is a charge for using/accessing the gorge.
Bärenschützklamm and back via the Prügelweg - a somewhat challenging tour.
https://www.almenland.at/ausflugsziele-natur/baerenschuetz-klamm/ Take public transport to Mixnitz, as today's destination was the Bärenschützklamm. From the train station, it's a 1.5-hour hike to the entrance of the gorge. The path climbs 168 wooden ladders and over 3,000 wooden rungs to the "Zum guten Hirten" rest stop. After a break, I decided to climb to the "Steirischen Jokl" snack bar and descend about 100 steps to the Schüssellbrunn pilgrimage church. Then I returned to "Zum guten Hirten." The descent took me along the Prügelweg trail to the entrance of the gorge. The trail requires concentration. I continued along the same path back to Mixnitz. At the inn just before Mixnitz, I realized that the train wouldn't arrive for another hour. So, I stopped for a final rest. It was a beautiful, but strenuous tour.
