This route was planned by komoot.
Just before heading home, I had to do a detour on the Moselsteig. After completing the boring Mosel Camino, I wanted to capture some beautiful views and the true Mosel feeling. 👀. Actually, for the otherwise 100% Mosel detours, it was unusual this time that the second lap was about 2-3 km along a forest highway. The first lap got full marks. But that's just complaining at a high level. All in all, a great finish. 👌👍🧙♂️‼️ I'll be back!!!!
A beautiful tour. It had been on my mind for a while and since it was too warm for the dogs today, the decision was made pretty quickly. I was glad that Komoot was running in the background as navigation, because every now and then I found the signage strange or even non-existent. The tour also goes through a campsite, and I would have lost the way here anyway 😉 Komoot was acting up again today, of course 🙄🙄 This time I had to upload some of the pictures again after the tour was over. I always take the photos with Komoot... well, always a new surprise
From the large wooden frame with its rows of seats, a sweeping view opens up over the Moselle River, the vineyards, and the village in the valley below. Here, the "Moselachter" (a local nickname for the Moselle river) reveals its scenic side – from a distance, the valley appears like a living canvas, with ships, trains, and clouds slowly drifting across the scene. Tip: Ideal for a longer break – unpack your thermos, have your camera ready, and with a bit of luck, capture some sunbeams or the evening atmosphere.
This detour seems to have combined two smaller circular routes. I was not impressed by this Moselsteig detour. Sure, the view of the Moselle is always great, but it takes more to get me excited about a circular hiking trail. Too few rest areas and information boards. What bothers me most, however, is the fact that the route crosses over several times - absolutely confusing.
In great weather with 16 degrees, it was wonderful to start hiking. From the Zummethöhe car park I start the Moselle Lake high above the Moselle with fantastic views and start with the northern circuit of the Kronenberg Circuit and always along the vines. The colorful leaves of the vines and splashes of color from plants are fun. The view is stunning. After 900 meters there is a decision to be made. I take the narrow path with climbing passages. So at the bench to the left. Sticks are now helpful. It goes up over steps and there is a rope safety device. I'm slowly conquering the slope. Step by step along a narrow path and uphill. The path ends on a vineyard path and the Moselle panorama dominates. I see the signpost to the slate cave and try to go there. I'm curious. But the path is narrow and dry and therefore slippery, with no way to hold on. So I turn back and leave it. The Konstantinhöhe is reached and it offers something historical and a place to rest and a great view. The rest of the way goes uphill on a grassy path protected by hedges. Meadows and pastures follow, followed by the Kron riding stables. Before that I turn off and the dirt road leads me to meadows and fields, past old vineyard walls and fantastic views again and again. I can't get enough of looking at it. Promising and as many shades of green as in old paintings, almost kitschy. Again and again there are benches and benches for the senses. It was so scenic that it was hard to go any further. Back at the parking lot I start with the 2nd part of the southern Sonnenberg circuit. Slowly it goes up again on the first tarred ground. Soon the houses have passed and I'm in the forest. He now accompanies me on a longer route until I reach the area of the holiday resort and from afar I can hear the children's voices having fun in the climbing forest. My hiking trail leads me right through all the happenings through the holiday resort and after leaving it goes sharply to the right and continues comfortably in the forest. Here, too, there are always great views. The leaves are falling from the trees like flakes and there is a rustling underfoot. The sun peeks through the canopy of trees and everything feels gorgeous. The next rest area with Leiwen cinema and wine cabinet and a great view invites you to linger. I also have to rest here before we go to the next highlight, the game reserve. Even here, the view invites you to linger. Next I'm on the road again in the forest. Make a detour to the small Marienkapelle, which is wonderfully built into the mountain and there are benches again to enjoy the view and the peace and quiet. Back on the trail, it leads me gently uphill and slowly back to where I started. A wonderful hike is now coming to an end.
I really liked the hiking trail and can therefore recommend it with a clear conscience. 🥾👍🏼 Great sections of the trail with great vantage points (Zummethöhe & Moselkino), a small slate cave and the small Marienkapelle Altes Bildchen, which was built in 1756, are the highlights of this tour. ℹ️At one of the most famous and beautiful viewpoints of the Moselle, the Zummethöhe, the hiking trail can be divided into two tours. Here the path converges to an 8. 😉 🅿️The Zummethöhe hiking car park has around 20 spaces. There is an information board on the side jump at the parking lot. Entry into both partial rounds is possible here.
Two loops make one loop. The Kroneberg Loop is the more beautiful, but also more adventurous, route. We start at the Zummethöhe, above Trittenheim and the vineyards. After a few meters, we're warned that the trail leads over steep, narrow sections, only for experienced hikers. There's an alternative route. We take the risk 😊 These sections continue to the Konstantinhöhe, after which we continue at a more relaxed pace. Just before the Kronhof, a cow or bull stands in the middle of the path, not visible from a distance 🙈 Luckily, the animal disappears back into the pasture after a while, so good luck again 😂 The snack bar at the Kronhof is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we continue. The rest of the route is unspectacular and runs along wide meadow and forest paths to the Zummethöhe.
Hey, here we are again. Vacation time is also hiking time. Off to the border river between the Eifel and Hunsrück. First, we hiked the Sonnenberg loop, which mainly follows wide paths with beautiful views. Part 2 of the loop then went over the Kronenberg, which requires surefootedness and a head for heights. Of course, we visited the slate cave, which isn't included on the loop, and I must say, thankfully. The detour was simply fantastic. The last 3 km were a drag, as we headed back toward the starting point on a wide path, despite the beautiful views.
