A wonderful route through wild, romantic cliffs. A real highlight!

But be careful, the old asphalt is heavily overgrown with moss in places, making it slippery! So it's better to descend slowly, so you'll see more of the sandstone cliffs.

Service road from Rathewalde to Basteistraße

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The farm road is closed for car through traffic at the sewage treatment plant and can only be accessed by car from Rathewalde (often RVs are also here); Attention: At the height of the allotment garden there's a rather edgy gutter 😱

Trail Reviews

Steffi Marth
April 24, 2023, Wehlen - Bastei - Königstein – Dacia Outdoor Challenge

Wehlen is the perfect starting point for gravel tours in Saxon Switzerland. Benni Grams (the course acrobat) and I met here to scour the area for the best bike routes for our Gravelers. Benni arrives in the metallic orange Dacia Duster, his gravel bike mounted on the roof. Before the start of today's challenge, Benni uses his course skills to warm up properly. Now we can start. Directly above Wehlen is an absolutely fantastic area for gravel bikes. Very mystical and ripe for a movie set. The tour also took us to the landmark of Saxon Switzerland, the Bastei. You only have to make a small detour from the circuit, which is often worthwhile with the view over the Elbe landscape and the many sandstone formations. We crossed the Elbe twice on the tour, in Königstein and in Wehlen. No problem, because here the ferries run every 10 minutes all day long. It was an incredibly beautiful day and a highly recommended tour, which is also suitable for beginners.
