More! The Artisan Bakery

Highlight • Cafe

A real gem, this bakery has been around for about a decade and, as well as being a wholesale supplier for the best places in the Lakes, it also has a cafe on-site so everything is mega fresh. Alongside great baked goods and bread, they also do soups, sandwiches and the like.

Really welcoming to cyclists and hikers, they're open from 8.00am every day, closing at 4pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends.

Gravel Trail to Glenridding

Highlight • Cycleway

varied gravel and some rocky stuff which I didn't attempt but the OH with MTB did. Technically some sections are footpath further along, but they are wide and I find as long as you are respectful and get off through farms, it's okay.

Old Coach Road (Dockray–Threlkeld)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This is an old coaching road which links Dockray with Threlkeld.

It's a fantastic off-road link which is part of NCN 71.

It's mainly excellent gravel but there are some tough rocky sections too. The views make it worth it, even if you have to get off and push.

The Boat House Cafe

Highlight • Cafe

Not only beer and cakes but they do breakfasts and have a TV screen of the Esthwaite Water Osprey nest.
You can also rent electric boats to take out on Esthwaite Water and view the Ospreys from the water.

Newby Bridge Stone Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Formerly part of Lancashire, Newby Bridge is a quaint village nestled along the banks of the River Leven, situated at the southern end of Lake Windermere.

Its name is derived from the distinguished five-arched stone bridge, constructed across the river in the year 1651.

There's a curved weir just below Newby Bridge which controls the amount of water flowing into River Leven from Lake Windermere.

Lyth Valley

Highlight • Viewpoint

Noticeably quieter than the rest of the Lakes, the Lyth Valley is prime riding territory with more rolling hills, less mountainous terrain, scenic woodland, and little lanes.

Springtime is when it truly comes into its best with damson trees literally everywhere, meaning that there's beautiful white blossom in every direction.

Gamblesmire Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Bumpy on a gravel bike, gets wet and muddy in parts, but a lot of fun!
