Hiking
Are you a real “eavesdropper”? Then you will like this tour: The Felsenmeersteig - the king's tour under the eaves - lets you experience the Swabian Alb with all its wonderful facets. And all of this spread over an impressive 17 kilometers.
It starts at the gates of Burgfelden, from where you make your way to the first lookout point, the Böllat, in a (still) relatively comfortable way. The 920 meter high summit gives you an incredible view of the surrounding landscape - in good weather even as far as the dark ridge of the Black Forest - and encourages you to continue hiking and discover even more. It's good that many more highlights are waiting on the way.
You walk downhill for a while and come across the ancient sequoia trees, which are not a bad photo opportunity. Then the path climbs up again and you land - less than five kilometers after the start of your tour - on the restored keep of the former Schalksburg. Even from the plateau alone, you will be amazed at the view that is offered to you. Climbing the tower definitely pays off as well. This is followed by a longer alternation between smaller ascents and descents. You run through the so-called sea of rocks, namesake of this hike and an incomparable natural spectacle made of huge rock formations in the middle of the forest.
You have to hike uphill one last time - and do it properly. Once at the top, however, a wonderful landscape awaits you with the juniper heaths typical of the region. Enjoy the tranquility up here on the Heersberg before you return to Burgfelden, accompanied by a wonderful panorama.

Due to the weather forecast of very high temperatures, I decided on an "early hike." After all, it's not possible without exercise 😉
We set off at 5 a.m. from the Burgfelden hiking car park.
Very well-marked hiking trail with fantastic viewpoints.
The terrain is challenging. Roots, loose scree, and gravel. It's a steep climb and …

The Heersberg (No. 6) is drawn in the wrong place on the map, it is there at km 13.6 but is actually only reached at 14.6.
