Villages in the De Alde Feanen National Park

The title actually says it all: during this route of almost 42 kilometers you will pass through various Frisian villages, each with their own character. Earnewâld, Warten, Grou and Akkrum are real water sports villages. Located in a water-rich environment, it is no surprise that the region has a history of shipbuilding. 

You can learn all about it in Skûtsjemuseum Earnewǎld. While the so-called skǔtjes used to be built and used to transport freight across Frisian waters, the boats are now the center of attention every summer for 'skǔtsjesilen', an event in which different skippers compete against each other on their 'skǔtsje'.

In addition to passing through authentic villages and fascinating museums, today you will also cycle through the Alde Feanen National Park. In this enormous peat swamp you can spot many special birds, such as the black tern and the great reed warbler.
