Hiking

The path takes you to the Gleize peak, at the end of an ascent of 410 meters in altitude. The panoramas at the summit are exceptional! We recommend that you follow this circuit in spring, when the alpine flora gives its most beautiful colors.

This hike starts at the Col de Gleize, from the eponymous car park. You can come by car from Gap following the N85 to Col Bayard then the Col de Gleize road. At 1,696 meters above sea level, the pass itself offers a magnificent view of the Champsaur bocage.

For the return, the easiest option will be to retrace your steps. Continuing on the Gleize crest which starts from the peak is much more technical and requires sure footing in rocky terrain.

And if you are up there, you like the view and you want to go a little further before going back down, two options are available to you: complete the route via the Chaudun peak, in the extension of Gleize, or turn around and go up to the Pic de l'Aiguille.

At 2,161 meters above sea level, the Gleize peak is located in the Dévoluy massif on a ridge which extends from the Charance mountain to the Faraut mountain. From here we have magnificent views of the Bois du Chapter biological reserve and the high peaks of Dévoluy.

View of the Champsaur bocage

Highlight • Other

It is one of the highest bocages in Europe. These landscapes are typical in France, but this one is one of the best preserved. It has a superb network of beech hedges, crops, meadows and woods which attracts beautiful biodiversity and many birds.

There are two routes to the summit: a short, steeper one or a slightly longer, easier, and less steep one. It's recommended to take the steeper route when climbing and the longer one when descending. Or take the less steep route there and back, as we did.
