Cycling

You can discover two wonderful gorges on this tour. The route runs on the fifth stage of the cycle route number six and promises a great scenic experience. It starts at the train station in Thusis.

The Viamala Gorge is first on the agenda. It's best to park your bike and explore the viewpoints on foot before cycling on to Zillis and Andeer. After Andeer, the path climbs more and takes you to the fantastic Roffla Gorge, which you can explore on foot. Next to the entrance to the gorge there is also an inn where you can stop for a break.

The next few meters of altitude take you up to Lake Sufnersee and the idyllic town of Sufers. You cycle comfortably through shady forests and over flowering meadows to your destination, Splügen. You can return to Thusis by post bus.

Roffla Gorge

Highlight • Gorge

The Roffla Gorge winds daringly along the A13 national highway between the towns of Andeer and Splügen. It's hard to imagine that it had to be painstakingly rebuilt by hand by Christian Melchior Pitschen at the beginning of the 20th century to be accessible to tourists. At the foot of the Roffla Gorge, the inn of the same name invites you to linger and experience history in the museum.

Sufers Village

Highlight • Settlement

The idyllic village is located on the shore of Lake Sufner. It has only around 130 inhabitants. If you are hungry, you can buy something to eat in the small supermarket.

Splügen

Highlight • Settlement

The southern Swiss town of Splügen was and is a typical mountain pass village. Then as now, merchants, artists and tourists stopped here before continuing on their way north or south. Before the construction of the Bernardino and Gotthard tunnels, the Splügen Pass was the only direct transfer route to the south. Old warehouses and customs posts still characterize the times of yesteryear.

You can live particularly peacefully and eat very, very well in the “Hotel Bodenhaus”. It is rumored that Napoleon, Queen Victoria and Albert lived here. More information: hotel-bodenhaus.ch.
