Welden Railway Stories A comfortable and charming cycle path along the foundations of the disused railway line led us to the Swabian Holzwinkel region. Its history as a former railway line adds a wealth of charm to the route. We cycled through forests and fields, past Lake Rothsee, and enjoyed wonderful views.

At noon, I have a check-up appointment with the orthopedist in Kriegshaber. It makes sense to continue westwards afterwards. So first of all, I head for the Weldenbahn cycle path. It always works. In Horgau, I head towards Rothsee, which I have wanted to go there for a long time. In Zusmarshausen, I then have to decide whether to go towards Burgau and then to the Danube or towards Wertingen 🤔? I decide on Wertingen, but then I come across a sign saying "Violau". Why not stop by the pilgrimage church again, which was the destination of our traditional costume pilgrimage for so many years! Heavenly peace in Violau!💒 From Violau, I head towards Welden. I'm prepared for a few steep climbs, but ultimately it's not tragic. My darling is carefully carried over a forest construction site, but that's about it for the difficulties. From Welden, I then head back along the railway cycle path. I'm still thinking about whether I should add another 15 km loop - but I'll let it go! 85 km is enough...
A tour with many kilometers on tarred paths. However, you have to be aware that the Weldenbahnradweg is a kind of motorway;). There were some nice beer gardens along the way if you want to stop by, e.g. B. at the train station Horgau or right next to the pilgrimage church. The last part led along the bike path right next to the road. Next time I would prefer to go into the forest.
Luckily on the way back we had the wind at our backs, which made life difficult for us on the way there. And once such a vegetable transport gets rolling, nothing and nobody can stop it. :))
