Today, in addition to hiking, German history was also on the agenda. On the hike, you are constantly reminded that Germany was once divided. The traces can still be seen everywhere today. The initial path consists of concrete slabs, but the surface changes again and again later. After half of the way, you then go along very beautiful paths and narrow forest paths, which I simply love. At the end of the hike, the border museum was a must. In summary, a very beautiful hike with a historical background. It should be noted that I did not have a GPS signal the whole time, but the signage is great.
The last hike of the year led along the TOP Schifflersgrund hiking trail. The 10.9 km long circular route leads from the Border Museum via the towns of Sickenberg and Asbach down to the former border crossing near Wahlhausen. The column path goes uphill to the Heierkopf observation tower and then across the outside area of the border museum back to the parking lot. Numerous information boards provide insight into life along the former inner-German border. Great route that we would happily recommend.
Today I explored another piece of German-German history. The Schifflersgrund border hiking trail is very informative, followed by a visit to the border museum https://www.grenzmuseum.de Always terrifying. The condition of the paths leaves a lot to be desired in some places, however (overgrown with nettles and thorns). I released the stone I found from Kehlheim into the wild at the Heiberg tower. Afterwards I took a little walk through Witzenhausen
TOP Border Hiking Trail - Schifflersgrund (Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park) ------------------------------ with a visit to the Border Museum (admission €5) https://www.grenzmuseum.de/ ------------------------------ "Quality Trail for Hiking in Germany" https://www.naturpark-ehw.de/aktiv/wanderwege/top-grenzwanderweg-schifflersgrund.html ------------------------------
Today we went to the parking lot 🅿️Schifflersgrund border hiking trail 😎🫶. It's free, and there's a nearly 12 km hike that tells the story of the former GDR. 26 people lost their lives on the border between Hesse and Thuringia. There's also a memorial for them: 26 wooden trees. You can climb the Heierturm (Heier Tower) and enjoy the view from there, including Allendorf 🫶🥰🔝. There are information boards along the side of the road. In some places, the path follows the paved roads that cars used to drive on in the GDR 🚘🚙🚗. Some are beautiful, narrow paths. Time and again, you can admire the beautiful landscape 😊. You can enter the museum for €4.50 per adult. A lovely, informative tour that I highly recommend 🙃😎🤗
The Schifflersgrund border hiking trail is a cross-border hiking trail in a historical setting, in the middle of the attractive natural landscape between Eichsfeld and Werra Valley. The trail has a total length of 10.9 kilometers - but can also be walked as a smaller and medium-sized circular trail of 4 kilometers or 7 kilometers in length. There are a total of ten information desks along the trail. Each desk uses bilingual texts, images, documents and graphics to convey an example of a selected topic from the divided past with a special focus on regional history. • We are very surprised by this beautiful spot in Eichsfeld Switzerland 💚 A great route, and everything is perfectly signposted!
A very nice tour on a hiking trail in Thuringia - very well signposted and steeped in history. Highly recommended.
Nip it in the bud - history must not repeat itself! 90 years ago we also had the choice, we chose National Socialism and the country lost before the war even began. After the end of the war, the country was to be divided for over 40 years, families and friends separated before what belonged together was brought back together. During the German Hiking Day we met a lot of nice, friendly and interesting people from Eichsfeld who also don't understand what motivates people in the country to make another wrong political choice, precisely because they have felt the consequences of a wrong choice for over 50 years and more.... History must not repeat itself - nip it in the bud!
