TOP Hiking Trail - Dieteröder Cliffs (Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park) ------------------------------ "Quality Trail for Hiking in Germany" https://www.naturpark-ehw.de/aktiv-im-np/wanderwege/dieteroeder-klippen.html ------------------------------ Touring Stamp Stations: > 94 - Dieteröder Dorfblick > 74 - Fürstenhagen Nature Park Center > 75 - Dieteröder Cliffs > 93 - Rüstungen Quarry ------------------------------
A detour to the Fürsenhagen Nature Park Center is worthwhile (note opening times!).
In the late afternoon I started the tour at the Dieteröder Klippen hiking car park. From there I first headed towards Fürstenhagen to experience the highlight "Dieteröder Klippen in the evening light" at the end of the tour. I reached the Fürstenhagen Nature Park Center via the former Heiligenstadt - Schwebda railway line. After collecting the Touringen stamp, I explored the beautiful garden and the great tree house. Then I walked on to the Dieterode village view (Touringen stamp) and took a short break in the shade of the covered rest area. The tour led through an interesting tunnel past the former train station to the Rüstungen quarry (Touringen stamp). From there it was not far to the cliffs. Once I reached the cliffs I enjoyed the great view and the low sun. Like-minded people had sat down on some benches to enjoy the sunset with a picnic. The great place is absolutely ideal for this. After collecting the last touring stamp, I walked the last few meters to the parking lot and happily made my way home. The tour over the cliffs is definitely recommended, especially in the evening to enjoy the sunset. If you don't want to walk the entire TOP hiking trail, just park at the Dieteröder Klippen hiking car park. From there it's just a stone's throw to enjoy the view. To hike the entire tour, we recommend heading towards Fürstenhagen to experience the highlight at the end of the tour.
The Dieteröder Cliffs have been on my hiking list for a long time. Today is finally the day. I managed to convince my mom to leave the familiar territory and go somewhere else for once.👍🏻 She picks me up from the train station and we drive straight to Dieterode, but can't find the parking lot marked on the map. So we decide to drive to Fürstenhagen, where there is supposed to be a hiking parking lot. On the way there we discover a turnoff at the edge of the forest, on the corner of which there is a small, inconspicuous sign saying "Parking 150 m". We turn in and sure enough! Just 100 m from the Dieteröder Cliffs we park the car and take a lunch break. Then we start hiking.🥪🥚 A two-minute walk through the forest and then a view opens up in front of us that leaves me speechless. We are in the middle of the cliffs and can see the surrounding area for miles. In front of us lies a beautiful hilly landscape, shimmering green in the sun, stretching to the horizon. In between, idyllically nestled, lie small villages. Large clouds cast shadows on the land in places. It looks stunning.🌄 It's hard to believe that we are in the Eichsfeld, because I have only seen panoramas of such beauty in distant countries. It's unbelievable. I take countless photos, I really want to capture this magnificent panorama. 📷💚 Here, where the Dieteröder cliffs begin, there is a rest area, two wooden sun loungers and an information board with a Touringen stamp box. We follow the Leine-Werra nature park trail, which runs up here on beautiful, natural paths. There are other rest areas and benches along the way.🥾 The Dieteröder cliffs consist of a shell limestone plateau and are covered with a carpet of grass, so they cannot be recognized as cliffs. They are about 550 m above sea level and are part of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park. Goats graze on the slopes. We watch birds flying majestically from the cliffs into the valley. How beautiful it must be to be able to fly over such a great piece of nature. 🦅 Then we go into the forest and slowly leave the cliffs. From now on we go down to the Rüstungen quarry, where a Touringen stamp is waiting. (I decided against this project.) The colors of the deciduous trees shine so beautifully in the autumn sun. We leave Rüstungen to the left and hike through a grove below the cliffs. On the way we learn about the flora and fauna using information boards, discover the geology and history of this region. We stop again and again and enjoy the wide view of the surroundings. We go straight ahead for a long time. At the junction to Fürstenhagen we decide against a detour to the nature park center there because it is already closed. Now we turn onto the former Heiligenstadt-Schwebda railway line and walk back to the car park. And because it was so phenomenal earlier, we go up to the Dieteröder cliffs again and enjoy the view of the picturesque hilly landscape.🌄😍 ➡️Tip: We recommend walking this circular trail in the opposite direction, because as we all know, the best comes last.😉🥰
Today, when the weather was finally dry, we drove to the Dieteröder Klippen hiking car park. From there, it was only about 100 m to the "Dieteröder Klippen" viewing point. As the sky had just clouded over, the view was not quite as clear as expected, but still indescribable. You can't get enough of the view and you need a lot of time to take in all the impressions. Then we continued on the Dieteröder Klippen TOP hiking trail through a colorful landscape and now that the sun was out, everything looked even more beautiful. With a view of small Eichsfeld villages and mountains in the distance, we walked towards Dieterode and later towards Fürstenhagen. Unfortunately, the nature park center was already closed, so we took the path to the right towards the hiking car park. When we got there, we decided to walk the 100 meters to the cliffs again. There we were immediately rewarded with glorious sunshine and a total view. My conclusion: next time I'll do the loop from the car park towards Fürstenhagen, so that at the end I reach the cliffs with the beautiful view as the absolute highlight.
And even more touring stamps: this time on the top hiking trail Dieteröder Klippen. With a small extension to the water tower and Fürstenhagen Nature Park Center. I really liked it: varied paths and great views from the cliffs. I'll be back! You can definitely go on good tours here by bike.
We walked from Dieterode to the old Fürstenhagen train station. We continued to the Dieterode Cliffs and then back to Dieterode. A beautiful hike with plenty of things for children.
