This is an exciting circular hike to the Schaumburg ruins, which is ideal for families. The tour begins on the outskirts of Schalkau, which you can also easily reach by train.
From the nature park gate below Ida Square, you hike through a beautiful forest, where there is a lot for you and your little companions to discover along the way. Among other things, the route passes a 350-year-old oak tree, under whose crown you can take a good first rest. The legend of the tree turns this break into a fairy tale hour.
Finally, you reach the ruins of Schaumburg and its former manor house. From the very top, you have a wonderful view over the Schaumberg region and as far as Upper Franconia. Here, your children can explore the old walls and visit a witch's house before you start the descent.
