Hiking

This Route in the Sierra del Espadán is truly wonderful. Starting from the Arab town of Alfondeguilla, you have a route ahead that takes you to the Castro castle, passing through the beautiful cork oak forests of the Horcajo ravine, the arch known as L'Arquet de la Rambla and the Castro refrigerator, a well of more than 12 meters that was once used to store snow. In total, there are five refrigerators in the natural park and this is the one that is best preserved.

The itinerary is long and the last climb to the castle will test the resistance of your legs, so don't forget to bring plenty of water and a snack to recharge your batteries. Of course, when you get to the top you will see that the views are well worth the effort.

To get to Alfondeguilla, it is best to have your own vehicle, since bus connections are scarce. Remember that summer in this part of Spain can be very hot, so we recommend the rest of the seasons to face this adventure.

L'Arquet of the Rambla

Highlight • Bridge

L'Arquet is an emblematic arch with a controversial origin (some say it is Roman and others, Arab). Through here the water was transported to the Molinet de Castro, which no longer exists, but was very close.

Castro Castle

Highlight • Castle

The Castro Castle, an Arab fortress with an impressive watchtower at a height of about 780 m, was a fundamental bastion of the Moorish resistance at the time of their expulsion.
It was taken by the Duke of Segorbe and General Cavanilles after the Castillo de Aín had also fallen. It was also used in the Carlist Wars.
The castle covers an area of about 2,000 m2, where two parts can be distinguished: the "Albacar", a fortified refuge for
the inhabitants of the towns dependent on the fortress; and on the other side, the castle itself, which presided
surrounded by a large keep that was demolished in 1938 during the Civil War.
The views are impressively beautiful.
