Hollywood Sign & Wisdom Tree – loop from Mulholland Dam, Lake Hollywood

A stop in the Hollywood district is simply a must on your trip through Los Angeles. Shaped by the film industry, Hollywood is world-famous and is best explored on foot. On this ten-kilometer loop, you hike through Griffith Park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. From the Hollywood Hills, you have a fantastic panorama of the surrounding hills, the sprawling city of Los Angeles and, of course, the famous Hollywood Sign.

From Canyon Lake Drive, you can enjoy your first view of the park and Lake Hollywood. You hike a bit along the Mulholland Highway, which is closed to motorists from the last house. You continue uphill, with the Hollywood Sign in view. You will see the large, white letters from different perspectives. The view behind the lettering is particularly impressive, with a view over the Hollywood Hills down to Los Angeles.

You then go down again via further viewpoints until you are standing on the banks of Upper Lake Hollywood, a large water reservoir dammed by the Mulholland Dam. Now it's not far until you reach your starting point again. Our tip: start this hike in the late afternoon. When the sun slowly sets and the lights in the megacity of L.A. come on, the view is even more impressive.
