Off to the hairy hill, that is the translation of Pu’uhuluhulu. The forested volcanic cone is located on the island of Hawaiʻi in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. On the way to Pu’uhuluhulu you will get to know the fascinating nature of the park.
It starts at the parking lot, right at the trailhead. The route begins with a small detour to a lava landscape that was created by a stream of slowly flowing lava during the eruption of Mauna Ulu between 1969 and 1974. There is very little green in this gray, fascinating backdrop. That changes suddenly as soon as you approach Pu’uhuluhulu. At the volcanic cone you are surrounded by trees and bushes again. From up here you can see as far as the Pacific, depending on the weather.
By car, entry to the national park costs $30. On foot or by bike you pay $15. The passes are valid for seven days.
