I got today's tour as a tour tip from the Thuringian Forest hiking website, as the last time I was at Wartburg was when it was still the GDR...we thought that since we were nearby we would go to Eisenach! We started at the market and went up a beautiful sunken road to Wartburg, a great castle worth seeing!Off the path runs the beautiful rock path, which you should definitely take!Through beech forests over the Rennsteig and Lutherweg, we came to the Drachenschlucht! The approximately 3 km long path through the gorge is really special, wonderful to walk through the moss-covered rocks and crevices! At the weekend there is a lot going on in the Drachenschlucht, a bit like an amusement park 🙄! It was a successful, varied day!
The last tour for this weekend in the Thuringian Forest. Tomorrow I'm going home again. Today I went to Eisenach. The goal was to see the Wartburg. I was hoping for a nice view. But unfortunately it was very foggy. But that gave the castle a nice atmosphere. Then I continued along the Luther Trail. I made a little detour over the rock path to get past the Elias Cave. (Good footing required). Then I headed towards "Wilde Sau", one of the Luther stations. Then I went up and down to the high sun. At the top I was finally greeted by the sun. The way back went through and along Marienbach right through the Drachental. What a beautiful path. Waterproof shoes are a must. Then I went through the town back to the train station. All in all a very beautiful route. And now the Luther Trail is starting to appeal to me a bit.
Autumn is particularly colorful in the beautiful deciduous forests around the Wartburg. The tour took us from Eisenach to the Rennsteig via winding and mysterious paths to the "High Sun". After a rest, we went to the Drachenschlucht and took in the nature. Typically for a beautiful Sunday, there were quite a lot of people out and about - on a weekday you can definitely experience nature even more intensely. The tour is definitely highly recommended!
Since we're already in Thuringia, we don't want to miss out on one of the top attractions (there are three to be precise): A visit to Eisenach and the Wartburg and a walk through the legendary Dragon Gorge. Eisenach is worth a trip in itself, but of course a quick visit to the historic Wartburg is an absolute MUST! If so many personalities have been there, then our presence is undoubtedly appropriate. 😇 The Dragon Gorge is an absolute hiking treat and cannot be topped in terms of fascination. 🔝🔝👌 All in all, an excellent circular tour that leaves nothing to be desired! (I have attached all the details about this tour to the photos.) An Outdooractive page about this tour: https://www.outdooractive.com/de/route/wanderung/thueringer-wald/touren-tipp-am-lutherweg-rund-um-die-wartburg-eisenach-hohe-sonne/17273319/ Drachenschlucht homepage - look here: https://www.drachenschlucht-eisenach.de/ Hiking map of the Drachenschlucht and Landgrafenschlucht in PDF format: https://www.eisenach.info/documents/1097538/2247725/1.1.+EWT-23-06+Flyer+Drachenschlucht+web.pdf/4f2a0b16-0d32-1d08-2a06-0012e6b3b835
I already knew the Landgrafenschlucht (think it was 2018). The Dragon Gorge, however, is truly even more impressive. The fear that too many people meander through the beautiful weather and holiday did not occur, thank god. Conclusion: you have to see them in connection with a visit to Eisenach. Completely chilled with a lot of looking and the babbling of the brook amid lush green cliffs, it went to the high sun. The excursion restaurant there has been closed for over 20 years due to decay as an object of speculation (like so many other buildings and castles in Thuringia). But now there is probably the prospect of reconstruction and renovation with a buyback - it would be nice one day. Continue on the wide and easy to walk Pummpälzweg. The Pummpälz is a fictional gnome who is said to hang around in the woods at night, jumping on drunks and whipping them Then finally the longed-for super or mega delicious bratwurst at the singing meadow ... and I mean, it was really delicious. The cake also says divine. You can buy a tree there and have yourself immortalized. The last section of the route is a rather less well-known trail / trail below the Wartburg, but it is worth going.
Nice circuit on the Rennsteig. The route is pleasant to run with slight inclines and mostly in the shade. However, there is no view. The view only comes at the Wartburg. Then down into the city to book a hotel, it was already too late to book on the app, so I had to show up in person. Then I had to get the car, which was still at the starting point a good 7km away. The enchanted path through the Drachenschlucht put the length of the route into perspective. You even learn to walk on water. However, the last 400m are the most challenging.
Start from the P+R / hiking car park at Prinzenteich via Mariental, height of Sonne, singer-wise to Wartburg ..... absolute highlight! Be sure to take the tour!
