Very nice spring hike, still pleasant effort.
The Great Hörselberg – History and fantastic panoramas always in view Last week, we embarked on a wonderful circular hike up the Great Hörselberg – a route that has it all: fascinating history, ancient myths, breathtaking views, and cozy places to stop for refreshments. We started our tour in Schönau and initially followed the small village road, past meadows with horses and alpacas. Finally, we turned towards Burbach, from where the path continued steadily uphill. The buzzing and humming of insects accompanied us, as dog roses, Turk's cap lilies, and a wealth of other wildflowers bloomed everywhere. Once at the top, we followed the ridge path of the Hörselberg. Dense forest surrounded us, and only here and there, through small clearings, did we catch a glimpse of the magnificent view. Instead, we were accompanied by all sorts of well-preserved boundary stones. The carved letters "SWE" and "HSG" reminded us of the old borders of the duchy.
Please be careful, at the beginning the bridge is now closed.
Ascension Day! Four fists and four paws 🐾 for a hallelujah... From Schönau, we went up the Großer Hörselberg, the ridge path was a wonderful walk☺️! Once at the top, we watched TV all the way to the Inselsberg and the Wartburg. On the way back, we stopped by the Venus Cave and the Jesus Spring. Occasionally, a few tipsy men stumbled across us; one even rolled into the bushes by the side of the path🤣... Father's Day, Ascension Day, a holiday and hiking day, with or without a beer-laden handcart😉.
Start of the hike behind railroad track 1. The signs on the forecourt are for the street. Hike from the booklet "Hiking around Eisenach"
What an incredibly beautiful day. Incredibly colorful impressions and sights.
Today on the way home 🚗 from Hesse to Brandenburg... I took a quick break at Hörselberg on the A4. Highly recommended, it takes three hours, an easy climb with great views of the Wartburg, the Grosser Inselsberg on the Rennsteig (reminder of the Rennsteig 2022), and into Thuringia. Truly great🫶. There's a restaurant on Hörselberg and a guesthouse with traditional cuisine at the start of the hike. My personal highlights include the boundary stones on the Kammweg, which once marked the territory of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha. And the St. John's Wort blossoming just in time for St. John's Day. And not to forget the amazing 😍 view. A holiday feeling 💯%
Despite the autumnal weather, it was a perfect day of hiking 💨🌤. The inn had opened its snack bar and the view was fantastic 🍻😀!
