We start from Georgenthal at the castle cafe on the dinosaur adventure trail. We then meet our first dinosaur, Emausaurus ernsti, at the edge of the forest to the left of the road uphill. Here we go along a great forest path. A few dinosaurs are besieging the path. The first Touringen stamp box is also on the right, guarded by a dinosaur, with a rest area. Continue past the small flying dragon and follow the path to the junction, turn left here to the hut with the Touringen stamp box. We continue to the excavation site with traces 🐾, then a small detour to the Lohmühle and back on the path via the animal enclosure (with the Touringen stamp box) to Tambach-Dietharz. The further path takes us back over the Gallberg, meadows, past the grazing cows over the Gänsebach into the forest on an unfortunately very unkempt, muddy path into the darkness. A ray of hope below then on the road we continue on the Zigeunerweg past the shoe tree and above the cycle path through the forest down to the starting point at the Schloss Cafe Georgenthal.
The return journey to and from Georgenthal is only possible by bus. The trail is interestingly designed. Several finds from the region can also be seen along the trail. There is a lot of background information about the different eras and the animals involved. This makes it interesting not only for children but also for adults. The trail can be chosen in different lengths. I chose the long version here. Unfortunately, Komoot once again did not display the trails correctly. I will add the other highlights later.
"Dinosaur Adventure Trail"/ Georgenthal > Tambach-Dietharz 🌲Thuringian Forest🌲 ------------------------------ - some dinosaur models are currently missing on the adventure trail due to repair work. - From Rodebachmühle to Georgenthal, the cycle path is recommended as an alternative because of tree felling. ------------------------------ https://www.tourenportal-thueringer-wald.de/de/tour/themenweg/georoute-6-saurier-erlebnispfad-unesco-global-geopark-thueringen/40060568/ ------------------------------ https://www.geopark-thueringen.de/discoveren-erleben/georouten/georoute-6-saurier-erlebnispfad ------------------------------
A very nice hike. Also suitable for children, as it passes two ice cream parlors. The one in Georgenthal is highly recommended.
Pängäa - on the trail of the supercontinent Bromacker - Tambach-Dietharz - Georgenthal - dinosaur adventure trail The day begins today at 10 a.m. with a very interesting guided tour on the Bromacker. At the moment they are digging again. https://www.stiftungfriedenstein.de/ausstellungen-und-veranstaltungen/fuhrung-auf-der-sommergrabung-2021-5 Next Wednesday at 10 a.m. there will be a guided tour by a scientist for the last time this summer. The Bromacker is a globally unique dinosaur site. The layers of the find date from the Lower Permian period. At least 13 different primeval dinosaur species have been found here during excavations over the past few years. After that it is of course possible to walk on the dinosaur path. The models are clearly explained on the boards. The signposted way back between Tambach-Dietharz and Georgenthal does not have any highlights apart from a few beautiful views. A very rewarding day!
Spontaneously visited the past! The dinosaur trail was very well done! The hike was ideal with sunshine... Brief confusion about the route because forestry vehicles had recreated the path, changed my mind quickly! A few extra meters in altitude 🤭 It's a good walk and luckily the frozen ground (forestry vehicles) have shaped the paths a bit again... Should have walked both places (Tambach-Diethartz, Georgenthal) more closely... they are interesting! The route was relatively well attended... met about 15 hikers...
Nice hike, the first part is good for children. The way back via Tambach-Dietharz is beautiful in places (e.g. Pinguin Eiscafe and Gallberg), but many forest paths are currently hardly accessible.
Visit to the excavation site at Bromacker. The same prehistoric dinosaurs were found here as in the USA. Many summers an American came here to take part in the excavations.
