Cycling

The 53 kilometer long cycle route starts at the Brenner Pass, a well-known crossing point for holidaymakers traveling south. From the train station you cycle on the wonderful railway cycle path through several tunnels to the former Schelleberg train station.

The route continues to Gossensass and after a short effort up the hill (Oberried), from where you can have a beautiful view of the Wipptal, it then goes steadily down again to the Fugger town of Vipiteno. The route takes you through the Zwölferturm into the historic old town. Particularly worth seeing are the town hall, the city and Multscher museum and the Holy Spirit Church.

The route then runs along the Eisack to Freienfeld, where you can take a detour to the Maria Trens pilgrimage church. You cycle steadily downhill to the impressive Franzensfeste. After a walk through the exhibition rooms of the fortress, you will reach the wonderful Neustift monastery, before rolling into Brixen a little later.

There you can reflect on your bike tour with a glass of Eisacktal white wine, marvel at the striking cathedral with its cloister, visit the Hofburg or relax in the Aquarena outdoor and indoor swimming pools. The official end of your tour is at Brixen train station. If you want to go up again at your destination, take the cable car up to the Plose and go on an MTB trail or one of the numerous hikes.

Schelleberg / Former Moncucco Station

Highlight • Historical Site

The former Schelleberg train station is located directly on the Brenner-Sterzing cycle path - a disused railway line - and has been left to the ravages of time. Today he stands on the cycle path as an impressive contemporary witness.

Historic Center of Vipiteno / Sterzing

Highlight • Historical Site

Vipiteno is always worth a visit. Especially when September is dumpling festival, where there are 70 different types of dumplings on a 300-meter row of tables in the streets.

If you are traveling from or to the south and stop in Sterzing, then the "Black Eagle" is recommended, in which we have eaten several times really well.

Bressanone Cathedral (Duomo di Bressanone)

Highlight • Religious Site

Brixen Cathedral and the cloister
All roads lead to the cathedral square of Brixen, the heart of the city. The cathedral is one of the most important sacred buildings along the Alps and is one of the most famous sights in Brixen. Its origins go back to the 10th century AD. The last major renovation took place in the 18th century. The building was completed in the baroque style with a classical vestibule.
The cloister is part of the cathedral district and is vaulted with a Gothic cross vault. The frescoes date from the 14th and 15th centuries and document the development of art in the Middle Ages.

Superb route from Brenner on the Eisacktaltadweg🤩, the old railway line to Brixen and further to Bolzano

Translated by Google

Despite a three-day break due to the weather, we're finally going on. Due to the luggage situation and a partly rainy day, the decision to take the train up the Brenner Pass was easy for me. The journey from there to Brixen via Sterzing was fantastically beautiful. Tomorrow we'll continue to Bolzano!!

Unfortunately, the navigation with Komoot was malfunctioning, so I recorded the route and followed the signs. Hopefully, it'll be fine on day 2.

Eisacktal cycle path from the Brenner Pass to Brixen. This morning we took the train (free with the Brixencard, day ticket for bikes €7.50) up to the Brenner Pass. A beautiful route awaited us in the most beautiful sunshine. About the old railway line went down to Gossenhard. After Gossenhard we continued to Sterzing with its impressive city center. Via the Sachsenklemme and Frankenfeste we continued to the Neustift monastery with its impressive church. From here it was only a short distance along the Eisack to Brixen. Our next stage then takes us from Brixen to Bozen. We are excited to see what awaits us on this stage.

Brenner - Bressanone - Bolzano Dream Tour Part 1 Brenner - Bressanone Part of the Eisack Cycle Path, along the former Brenner Railway, opened in 1867. Parts of the former Brenner Railway were closed and dismantled in 1999. Today, the Eisack Cycle Path runs along sections of the former route from Brenner via Bressanone to Bolzano.

Cheated for 36 minutes with ÖBB - start in Brenner train station - via Sterzing - Brixen to Mühlbach - 32 ° C - more photo breaks like cycling 🤷‍♂️
