Today, in pleasant temperatures, we went on the June hike with the hiking group. We set off from Großengsee to the Wildenfels castle ruins, which are well worth seeing. We continued through forests over hill and dale, along beautiful fields and flower meadows. The hike took us past many places to sit that invite us to take a break. We went back to Großengsee via St. Helena, where we stopped at the Scharrer inn, where there was delicious food.
Beautiful autumn tour from Ittling via St. Helena to Wildenfels. There is a lot to see and the paths are OK in bad weather.
The June hiking group hike takes us today from Großengsee via Wildenfels, Strahlenfels and St. Helena across summer fields and past lush meadows and past the Naifa spring. The Wildenfels castle ruins are always a lovely place to stop. Nice, easy paths with a good destination at the end: Gasthaus Scharrer in Großengsee. Here you can get good food and you can also stock up for home in the in-house butcher's shop.
Today, my wanderlust led me to a different corner of the Nuremberg region, one I was previously unfamiliar with and which is also located within the Franconian Switzerland Nature Park. The promised sunshine failed to appear, so I hiked through the gray late winter. I started my hike in Sankt Helena at the church and initially followed a small road to Großengsee, with its charming old manor house, and then on to Wildenfels. The ruins already rise like a silent finger above the village, towering above the treetops. Pleasant paths lead through the forest to the former castle complex. At the foot of the castle, you can enjoy the view over Franconian Switzerland before climbing the steps to the top. Some of the stonework still remains, from the palace and also from the keep, the "finger" that can be seen from afar. The trail continues along beautiful paths and paths to Strahlenfels. Little remains of the former castle, but the imposing castle rock still makes an impression as it towers above the small village. Forest and wide open spaces define the return route, which leads me back to the starting point through this quiet, beautiful landscape. Shortly before reaching Sankt Helena, the Naifer Valley awaits with its impressive rock formations and the small Naifer spring. A wonderful hike through a stunning landscape with beautiful castle ruins and numerous half-timbered houses and manor houses.
