This route was planned by komoot.
Small circular hike that was still doable at the beginning of June, even after the heavy rain, and (almost) without snow (on the way around the Lägh da Cavloc we had to overcome a small snow deposit once). The "smugglers' path" to the small Lägh da Bitabergh is also great with children, as there are several information boards and puzzles along the way.
Today the Engadine was waiting for us. Since we weren't quite fit again after a cold, we only did a short but beautiful hike to Lägh da Cavloc. The lake is easy to get to and we met lots of families. A particular highlight were the yellow larch forests and the crystal clear water.
Wonderfully varied tour. The smugglers' path is pure joy with wonderfully idyllic sections between roots and boulders, over wooden planks and a mini suspension bridge. The Lägh da Bitabergh turns out to be a real gem and the Lägh da Cavloc is also beautiful. The structures in the sand of the retention basin look like they're from another planet, the old bridge, on the other hand, is very earthly - and very untrustworthy, even though the path over it is still marked on our various maps. We decided not to actually use it...
A wonderful walk in a wild landscape. https://www.bregaglia.ch/de/erlebnisse?id=164 The smugglers' trail "Capel" in Maloja. The topic of smuggling is particularly relevant in the area from Maloja to the neighboring Italian Val Malenco, as there is a concrete historical connection to the region. From the beginning of the 19th century until well into the 20th century, smuggling was an important source of income for the population. Especially in the Bergell and the Engadine. A wide range of goods were smuggled, especially food and luxury items, which made it possible to do good business and make life in the formerly very barren mountain valleys more pleasant. The "Percorso dei Contrabbandieri - Capel, Maloja" extends over a 1 ½ hour hike from Maloja towards the south. Through a larch forest you reach the Lägh da Bitabergh, where the smugglers' path ends and the pretty mountain lake invites you to rest and linger. Along the way, 17 stations provide insights into the life and adventures of the smugglers. In the search for the hidden smuggled goods, you also learn how to orient yourself in nature and first aid recipes from the great outdoors.
After the 1:00 p.m. Postbus left me in Silvaplana, I was only able to start in Maloja an hour later than planned. The weather showed itself from the very best side again. From Maloja I first crossed the dam wall, then we went steadily up the mountain path and through beautiful forest to the extremely idyllic Lägh da Bitabergh. Continue on soft forest paths but always uphill to another picture-perfect lake, the Lägh da Cavloc. From there I had to step on the gas to catch the 6 p.m. Postbus in Maloja. So today was lake day!! The camera is hot :-)
