This loop is relatively short and easy. Most hikers can complete it in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on their pace and how long they spend enjoying the views.
The trail offers a varied experience. While parts of the broader Gitchi-Gami State Trail are paved, this specific loop within Gooseberry Falls State Park features gentle terrain with a slight incline. You'll encounter sections with gravel and boardwalks, making for a pleasant walk.
You'll be treated to beautiful natural scenery. Key highlights include the stunning Gooseberry Falls, where you can witness cascading water, and Agate Beach, known for its unique stones and Lake Superior views. The trail also winds through forests and offers glimpses of the Gooseberry River.

This is another classic hike on the North Shore of Lake Superior and is also a Minnesota State Park Hiking Club trail. We were a bit disappointed to discover that the secret password for this trail, which used to be hidden, is now easily accessible and out in the open. When Martha and I walked this trail for our Hiking Club badge in June 2016, the password was cleverly concealed inside the Civilian Conservation Corps Lookout Trail Shelter, out of direct sight. To celebrate the beauty of this trail along its entire length and the contributions of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, I created three additional highlights: one at the CCC Lookout Shelter, one at the Scenic Overlook Platform, and the third at the CCC Adirondack Shelter. All three sites offer spectacular views.
