Hiking

Without major differences in altitude, you hike on the Groppertal forest path circular route past giant trees, Black Forest farms and idyllic forest passages north of Villingen-Schwenningen. Snack bars and the rest area at the Salvest game reserve with a playground and benches invite you to enjoy the eastern side of the Black Forest.

From the train station in Villingen, the L6 bus takes you every hour to the starting point at the Tannenhöhe bus station. On weekends, this bus line operates as a call-a-day bus, so don't forget to call to book your trip at least 30 minutes before departure! You can find more information at https://www.vs-bus.de/.

You can climb up the Uhustein and look down into the valley from above. The rocky dome is secured with a railing so you can reach the edge.

Narrow, thin forest paths ... Fantastically beautiful .... You can totally slow down on this section of the route.

Trail Reviews

Petra mit Teddy 🧸 🚴🏼‍♀️ 🥾
July 13, 2025, 🐕 Genießerpfad Waldpfad 🌲🌳 Groppertal

Paid a visit to Villingen today – and used the afternoon to enjoy it. I walked the path in sandals – but unfortunately, it wouldn't have been stroller-friendly. Lots to enjoy along the way 😋😋 I think it's the right time 😇

We parked at the Tannenhöhe hiking car park on the upper forest road. The Groppertal Premium Trail also begins here. On mostly narrow paths, the path leads us to the eagle owl rock. From there you have a view of the Groppertal. It continues, past fountains and rest benches, as well as various sky beds. Shortly before the quarry we change the valley side and climb through meadows up to the Breitbrunnen. Strengthened with cappuccino and delicious apple strudel, we hiked back on the premium trail.

On the edge of the Black Forest there is this small but fine tour that leads through the Villinger Forest. The majority of the route are rooty trails and smaller gravel paths. Only rarely do you come in the direction of larger paths or roads and although the railway tracks run not far along the route, you are hardly disturbed by them because they are not very busy. In short: Pleasant little half-day tour through gnarled forest with water sources.

We went by train and bus to the starting point of the tour, the WP Tannenhöhe in Villingen. Mixed weather, around 12 degrees with alternating clouds and sunshine and 2 smaller rain showers were the companions. Along the Groppertal and through beautiful forests, the route continues to the Gasthaus Breitbrunnen (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). The tour leads through the Langmoos to the Salvest game reserve, then via the Roman path back to the starting point.

A harmonious, comfortable route that keeps what its name promises and, with a refreshment stop right on the way, also lives up to this enjoyment aspect. Thanks to extremely attractive forest passages, idyllic meadows and cheerfully babbling brooks, the lack of views is hardly noticeable. Detailed route information: -> look here: https://www.outdooractive.com/de/route/wandern/baden-wuerttemberg/geniesserpfad-waldpfad-groppertal/14503588/ An ideal forest route, especially now in summer! 👌👍

The start and end point of the Groppertal Genießerpfad hike was the hikers' car park near the Tannenhöhe guest house (Obere Waldstraße 59). This hike is characterized by many easily accessible forest paths, some as single trails, and many opportunities to rest along the way. There are many blueberries along the way. About halfway there is the Breitbrunnen inn with a very good kitchen.

The Groppertal valley has been on my list since 2023. I was there for the photo competition awards ceremony in Unterkirnach (https://www.komoot.de/tour/1122749424?ref=aso), and Mayor Andreas Braun recommended the Groppertal hike to me. During a bike tour home from Lake Constance with my son (https://www.komoot.de/tour/1798225606?ref=aso), we cycled through the valley, and now I've finally hiked it! 😀 Yes, it's something special! 👍🏻 I'd estimate at least 80% of it is on trails. There weren't any views in today's weather, but it was still a fantastic hike. Absolutely recommended. The designation as a premium trail is 100% justified. @Schwarzwald Tourismus @Baden-Württemberg @npschwarzwald @Schwarzwaldverein e.V.

Did a Black Forest gourmet tour today. Was a great tour with a stop at the Breitbrunnen 😁😁😁 Start was at the hiking car park Oberförster Ganter Str. through the Germanswald via the Römerwegle to the Salvest from there to the Breitbrunnen an alcohol-free wheat via the Groppertal back to the car park 👍🤩
