The Hochtalsteig trail offers the best views of the Bernau High Valley. This varied hike takes you over several mountain peaks, viewpoints, and mountain huts.

From the starting point in Bernau, the trail first climbs gently toward the Spießhorn. From the 1,349-meter-high summit, you have a wonderful view of the Menzenschwand Valley. Just a few minutes later, you reach the Krunkelbach Hut. Here, you can stop for a bite to eat and enjoy homemade food. Afterwards, you hike back to Bernau. From the trail, you will repeatedly enjoy impressive views of the Bernau High Valley.

Bus line 7321 goes to Sankt Blasien from the starting and finishing points. In Sankt Blasien, you can connect to buses in the region. Among other things, there are regular buses to Seebrugg train station, where you can change to the S-Bahn (suburban train) to Freiburg.
