For the length of this tour you have to take into account the route to Karalm, the starting point. There are various possible starting points such as the Habachtal car park, the Wenns car park or the Mühlbach train station. This means that there are another ten kilometers for the return trip on top of the six kilometers of the hike shown here.
From the Karalm you hike through the picturesque Steinbachtal up to the Karsee. Your gaze wanders across the reflecting water surface to the mighty Breitkopf and the Schottmeiler. After a relaxing break, we continue to the Zwölferkogel, with the last section leading over a grassy ridge - a certain level of sure-footedness and a head for heights are required.
From the 2,218 meter high summit you have a fantastic view down to the Salzach and Habachtal valleys and to the Großvenediger. Since there is no place to stop for refreshments on this tour, you should pack enough drinks and snacks. Back to the starting point you follow the same path or alternatively the route over the Elferkogel.
