This route was planned by komoot.
The "Along the Verzasca and Ponte dei Salti − loop tour" is generally considered moderate, as indicated by komoot. Many segments are easy and suitable for most fitness levels, especially the loop from Lavertezzo to Ponte dei Salti. However, the route features varied terrain, including narrow, lumpy dirt and stone paths, old mule tracks, and numerous ups and downs. You'll walk through woods, across fields, and past charming stone villages, always with the stunning emerald-green Verzasca River nearby.
This loop tour offers several captivating highlights. You'll pass through the picturesque LAVERTEZZO Village, encounter historical sites like Revöira and Ca D Dént, and marvel at the iconic Ponte dei Salti, a medieval stone bridge. The trail also features a beautiful Waterfall With Swimming Pool and various Verzasca River Swimming Spots, all set against the backdrop of the river's unique emerald-green waters.
Yes, the Verzasca River is famous for its clear, emerald-green water and offers numerous spots for swimming and cooling off. While the water is glacially cold even in summer, many visitors enjoy taking a dip or sunbathing on the rock formations. Be aware that caution is advised due to currents and deep pools, especially near Ponte dei Salti.
The best time to hike this trail is generally from late spring to early autumn (May to October) when the weather is pleasant and the river is inviting for swimming. In winter and early spring, some parts of the route can be slippery, and crossing streams might be difficult due to snowmelt or heavy rain.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, given the varied terrain with narrow paths, stone sections, and potential ups and downs, ensure your dog is comfortable with such conditions. Always keep your dog on a leash, especially near villages and popular swimming spots, and be mindful of other hikers and wildlife.
The trail is often centered around LAVERTEZZO Village, which is a common starting point. Parking is available in the area. The Verzasca Valley is also well-served by public transport, with a bus line paralleling the trail, allowing for flexible access and the option to shorten your hike if desired. For specific parking locations, it's advisable to check local signage upon arrival.
No, you do not need any special permits or pay entrance fees to hike the "Along the Verzasca and Ponte dei Salti − loop tour." The trails are freely accessible to the public.
Yes, many segments of this loop tour, particularly the sections around LAVERTEZZO Village and Ponte dei Salti, are considered easy and suitable for families. There are plenty of spots for picnics and splashing in the river. For added family fun, the wider Verzasca Valley also features the BoBosco trail with wooden games and marble runs in the woods.
Yes, the route intersects with and utilizes sections of several other official trails. Notably, it covers significant portions of the Sentiero etnografico Revöira and the 01-Sentiero Verzasca. You'll also find smaller segments that overlap with paths like Motta - Piano, Bivio Piee - Ganne bus, and Piano - Oviga.
Yes, you'll find options for food and drink, especially in the charming villages along the route. LAVERTEZZO Village, a central point for this tour, has cafes and restaurants. Other traditional stone villages like Corippo and Sonogno also offer places to refresh and refuel.
For this hike, we recommend bringing sturdy hiking shoes suitable for varied terrain, plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and swimwear if you plan to take a dip in the Verzasca River. A camera is a must for capturing the stunning scenery, especially the emerald-green water and Ponte dei Salti.
To make the most of your experience and potentially avoid the busiest times, consider starting your hike early in the morning, especially on weekends or during peak summer months. The trail parallels a bus line, offering flexibility: you can use public transport to shorten your route or access less crowded sections. Exploring the charming side villages like Corippo can also offer a quieter, authentic experience away from the main Ponte dei Salti area.
At the beginning, the tour is well marked with white/red markings. Later on, these are missing and you have to pay close attention to Komoot and the map. Overall, though, it's a great and strenuous tour. Not necessarily suitable for younger children.
2. Most beautiful hike. Even if it was very exhausting
Yes, it was really great, but it was cold... it would have been better to hike around Locarno 🥹☺️
Today we took the post bus to the beautiful mountain village of Lavertezzo. The journey there was breathtaking, passing a huge reservoir. When we arrived in Lavertezzo, I initially thought that time had stood still. We had chosen a sporty tour for today, but it was very varied and almost only went along challenging paths. Unfortunately, we got a bit lost in Motta and walked about 1 km along the road until we got back on our route. I don't know exactly what to expect tomorrow, but today's tour was great and I can recommend it without reservation. LG 🙋♂️😊
Today we went to Verzasca Valley, if you're already there you have to do it 😁. Day ticket for parking €10, all other parking spaces max. 1 or 3 hours. The normal tour on the Verzasca is really nice and very easy to walk, but too monotonous for me and since we didn't want to take a bus, we added a small curve. But be careful here, the path is difficult to find and not very easy, 100% sure-footedness is a prerequisite. But then it's fun 😃 not only to walk in the valley. Except for the bathing area at the Römerbrücke, there wasn't much going on (today was Thursday)
