This route was planned by komoot.
Anyone who spends their free time in the Jura, especially in the 3 lake region of Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Biel and Lake Murten, should reserve some of it for Neuneburg's local mountain "Chaumont" with its panorama tower. It is worth it .. From the La Coudre valley station, a colorful and quite steep funicular takes you up to the Chaumont in just a few minutes. The star of the hour greets its visitors as soon as they arrive at the mountain station. From the top of the tower, which reminds me of a minaret, you can enjoy a fantastic view over the three lakes region. If the weather is still clear and you have climbed the 56 steps, the 10 meter high tower, one of the first to be built in 1912 from the then new building material "Betton", offers a magnificent view of the highest mountains in the Alps. It ranges from the Eiger Mönch and Jungfrau to Mont Blanc. In the past it also served (one is amazed) as a lighthouse for Neuchâtel shipping. Once you've had enough of the panorama over Neuchâtel and its landscape, a visit to the "Petit Hotel Chaumont" can't hurt. You can also get full here, but in a tasteful way. The terrace is inviting, the staff very attentive and friendly and the food on offer… hmmmm! Fondue in summer, or would you like a hot stone? If you want to make your kids and yourself happy, next door is the "Parc Adventure Chaumont" rope and fun park with lots of action. But we are now drawn to hiking and that is why we leave this somewhat sleepy little town at an altitude of 1087 m in order to devote ourselves to the local nature. When our feet enter the dense forest after a few modest meters in altitude, we are delighted to find that thousands of ripe and raspberry-colored fragrant raspberries make us "crazy" to the left and right of the path. They are just ready to be picked, sweet and available in all possible sizes. Nearly! If it weren't for those nasty spikes that protect them from our every attack. But we still get our money's worth, even if the juiciest are often unreachable. When we are about halfway, where the path makes a sharp bend back, we once again enjoy the unique panorama of Lake Neuchâtel. Several simple fireplaces invite you to have a hot barbecue. Wood must be collected! Shortly before the end of our excursion, we pass the pretty «Château Bleu». A castle-like manor house with an extension that is at least as pretty. Horses and cows graze peacefully on the neighboring pasture, where a single boulder has made itself comfortable in the middle. An idyllic setting. Unfortunately, we are denied the opportunity to visit the property. private property! C'est la vie. We don't have to stick our noses in everywhere. Arriving back at the mountain station, the train timetable gives us some more time to stop off at the Petit Hotel. Finally, here is some important information. You can, but you don't have to, use the train. There is also a road leading up the mountain. There are a «few» paid parking spaces and a bus station at the valley station! The train usually goes up at a quarter to four and down on the hour. (No guarantee!) If you want, you can buy your ticket inside at the machine, or even better, super easily with the "Fairtic app" on site. Fairtic is highly recommended and saves you not only on this excursion, pulling out your credit card or fumbling for change. But the most important tip of all is that access to the tower via the turnstile costs CHF.1. And in the form of a one-franc coin. So be sure to take a one-frankler in your trouser pocket. Now we wish you a lot of fun and relaxing moments under Chaumont's open sky.
