The Cansiglio plain is particularly appreciated during the autumn period due to its magnificent colours. I come here every year, it's my "autumn classic"!
Leaving the car at the Crosetta pass, you go up beyond the forest boundary barrier towards the first gravel stretch: the Candaglia forest road.
It starts with an uphill slight slope, easily pedaled. Pay attention only to a few passages as in some periods of the year (in autumn for example) there may be many leaves covering the rocks.
Cycling along the Candaglia forest road is very pleasant, initially you feel literally surrounded by beech trees, but as you continue north they begin to thin out, leaving room for a beautiful view of the Belluno Prealps.

After the fiftieth kilometre, having passed the town of Tambre, don't miss the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful and unusual buildings in the area: the House of Books. It is a house-museum entirely carved in wood by the Venetian artist Livio De Marchi; a fairy-tale sculpture that seems to have come out of a story by the Brothers Grimm, full of extraordinary details and details. The structure is private and not always open to the public and can be visited, but I assure you that it has its reasons even from the outside.

Continuing along the track, the road begins to climb again towards the beautiful Taffaril road, appreciated by those who love excursions on foot or by bicycle due to the dense beech and fir forest that surrounds it. Take advantage of these last kilometers along the Taffaril road to enjoy the silence and scents of the forest. From here, a short descent will take you back to the Crosetta pass.

Candaglia Forest Road

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

In the middle of the Cansiglio forest, at an altitude of 1,268 meters, there is the Candaglia forestry house, in a beautiful and quite panoramic clearing. It gives its name to the route that passes in front of it: immersed in the woods and nature between Veneto and Friuli, among fir and beech trees, it is a true paradise for those who cycle off-road.

The House of Books

Highlight • Monument

The House of Books is one of the most curious and singular places that can be found in Alpago. It is a house-museum entirely carved in wood by the Venetian artist Livio De Marchi in 1990. A fairy-tale sculpture that seems to have come out of a story by the Brothers Grimm, full of extraordinary details and details. The exterior walls of the house are composed of hundreds of carved books; the roof is a huge open book while the fireplace is replaced by a large fountain pen. The fence is made up of a long row of colored pencils and a large pair of glasses as a gate. The interior is incredibly scenic: the stove and fireplace are carved from wood, and the table and chairs in the shape of books.

Taffarel Road

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The fascinating Strada del Taffaril is a comfortable forest track with a mostly flat course and short ups and downs. It is surrounded by a beautiful beech forest whose origins date back to 1548, when the Republic of Venice established the "Gran Bosco de Reme di San Marco" here, whose tall trees were reserved for the production of oars for the galleys.

Also indicated as path F, it connects the road that goes up to Monte Pizzoc to the town of Campon; it winds between bumps and valleys, alternating slight slopes with uphill stretches. After passing the start of the path that dips into the Vallorch valley, it crosses the route of the Alta Via nr. 6, the detour to Malga Mezzomiglio and crosses the Pian Parrocchia - Campo di Mezzo nature reserve (characterised by the mixed beech and silver fir forest) before descending onto the northern side of Col Mazzuc.
