Forests, heathlands and castles - the perfect autumn bike route from Nunspeet

This autumnal cycling route takes you through the forests and heathland of the North Veluwe. A quieter area compared to the southern variant, but certainly no less beautiful.

The cycle route starts at Nunspeet train station. You will soon leave this cozy artists' village behind you and cycle across vast heathland plains. Are you here in the early morning hours, or just around sunset? Then keep your eyes open for game! This area is popular among deer and wild boars.

Then you dive into the forests of Epe. Be sure to take a break and soak up the last warm rays of sunshine of the year on the terrace of the cozy restaurant De Ossenstal. While enjoying a nice cup of coffee and perhaps even the famous Ossenstalpancake, a light, crispy crumbly pancake of up to 3 centimeters high, you can enjoy the wooded surroundings here.

Less than 2 kilometers further on, you suddenly find yourself in the heart of Sweden as you cycle along an idyllic lake, surrounded by pine trees. Be sure to get off and enjoy this unique place! Did you just skip the coffee break or bring a thermos full of tea or coffee? Then this is the perfect place to take a break.

As you continue along the cycle path, the landscape opens up and the heathland of the Renderklippen stretches out before you. This area gives a good insight into how the Veluwe came into being. The many hills are the remains of moraines that were formed during the Ice Age. Excavations show that people were already living here in the late Bronze Age, about 700 years BC. This area is ideal for grazing sheep, and this is still done to this day.

Also nice: along the way you will pass Cannenburch Castle, where you can take a look at what life was like in the 16th century. Do you want to go inside? The castle is open to the public from April to October every day except Monday from noon to 5 p.m.

Your tour continues past the beautiful heathland and forests of Vierhouten and Nunspeet on cycle paths through the greenery. Enjoy the peace and vast nature before heading back into the center of Nunspeet.

How do you get there? This cycling route starts and ends at Nunspeet train station. Would you rather come by car? Then it is best to park at Carpool Nunspeet on the A28 and Elspeterweg. The cycle route passes directly here. You can then choose to skip the part through Nunspeet and join the route on this side of the A28 via the Van Petersom Ramringweg.
