Hiking

This pretty loop offers a variation on the traditional hike that leads to the Aubert and Aumar lakes. Its first portion, less frequented, offers a slightly steeper climb than that of the classic route. The start is at the Lake Orédon car park.

From the start, the trail climbs into a dense and lush forest. Paved with stones and roots, it quickly gains height above the lake. When the ground finally clears, you approach the Estoudou pass.

This crossing point leads to Lake Oule, it also offers a bird's eye view of the road which serves Lake Orédon. However, you take a different direction by following the sign indicating Lake Aumar. This new section begins with a slight descent on a path that runs along the side of the mountain. Then you gradually go up until you reach the lake which you follow for a beautiful part.

You then head towards its neighbor, Lac d’Aubert. It is at the dam that you approach the final part of the route which consists of returning to the starting point. Along the way, you pass along the magical banks of Les Laquettes, before concluding with a more technical portion in the forest.

Col d'Estoudou

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Access to the Estoudou pass is a steep climb but it's worth it. 360-degree panorama, dizzying view of the bends of the road which goes up to Lac d'Aubert, natural belvedere over Lac de l'Oule. The show is there.

From the pass you can also follow the Escoudou crest to take advantage of this ideal position. Take the opportunity to watch for the birds of prey circling in the sky.

Lake Aumar

Highlight • Lake

Lake Aumar, which adjoins Lake Aubert, offers a superb picture from its barges, since it highlights the peaks of Néouvielle and Ramougn. A Pyrenean show par excellence.

Lac d'Aubert

Highlight • Lake

Lake Aubert, located at an altitude of 2,148 meters, serves as a mirror for Hourquette d'Aubert. This artificial body of water (dam lake) is fed by the small glaciers of Ramougn and the Chaussenque breccia, as well as by the overflow of Lake Aumar located overlooking the Aubert.

An orientation table allows you to put small names on the peaks that surround the lake. So you will be able to locate the Néouvielle peak.

Lake Orédon

Highlight • Lake

Lake Orédon is the most accessible of all since a car park has been installed on its banks. If this causes large crowds in high season, the lake of Orédon remains one of the most impressive of the Néouvielle massif.

With the mountains that throw themselves steeply into its waters, Lake Orédon looks like a fjord that makes it very different from all the other bodies of water in the reserve. To have !

Very very classic and quite busy. The landscape is sublime.

I had read, I had been told… but to be there to see this beauty with my own eyes! We want to take photos every 5 minutes! Imperative, come early for the colors (7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. in September) Very few people It goes up steeply at the beginning and goes down very steeply at the end (hard! hard! knees), but what a view of Lake Auber! The path gets lost on the banks of Lake Aumar, you have to pay attention to the route. Stunning ! Stunning ! Hiking The upper car park is accessible before 9:30 a.m., after which you must wait until 6 p.m. to use the road. Except that in this month of September, the barrier is always lifted at 2 p.m.! Normally paid parking is free… See the “Road trip in the French Pyrenees” collection to discover other hikes: https://www.komoot.com/fr-fr/collection/2378221/-road-trip-dans-les-pyrenees-francaises

A beautiful 5-hour hike (with breaks and snacks) which will make you discover 4 splendid lakes. First of all, from the car park (paying €7 for a 6-hour day) you can contemplate Lake Orédon. Then you start to climb via the stepped path to reach the Laquettes. Great place to enjoy nature. Finally, you continue to climb to Lac d'Aubert where you can take a short break before completing the last meters and reaching Lac d'Aumar. This lake is quite simply the prettiest in the area. Perfect for bathing, resting in the shade and eating snacks. Once you have gone around the lake via the north face, you can either continue to climb towards the upper lake (be careful, big climb), or continue south-east on the GR10 to reach the starting point. Watch out for the last descent, it is long and very steep, take care of your joints and your knees. Feel free to use your walking sticks. A superb hike to do.
