This route was planned by komoot.
And (again 🤪) a new hiking project: the Pieterpad. First four days, extended weekend stop. Arrived yesterday and spent the night in cute Pieterburen on the equally cute campsite. Before things really got going today, the prologue was on the agenda as a warm-up. Can be done, does not have to be. There are sheep to see and a view of the Wadden Sea. 😅
Fog, thick fog and therefore saw little. The silence on the other hand was wonderful. Cold day, around -2. All in all a good time on my 1st Pieterpad adventure.
The great adventure started today with the prologue of the Pieterpad. The first 10 km are over. It turned out to be an evening walk, which on second thought turned out to be a good idea due to the heat. Tomorrow I will really start, encouraged by my walking companions today, @Reidc
If you have the time, you can take a circular walk from Pieterburen to the Wadden coast. You can consider this walk as a warm-up, a prologue. The route is not part of the Pieterpad itself, and is only included in the guide as a suggestion. So the route is not described in the guide or marked in the field. The outward route to the dike uses the Dutch Coastal Path and is marked white/red. When you arrive at the coast, make sure that you do not follow this marking any further, otherwise you will end up in Germany. N.B.: dogs are not allowed on the part of the route over the Wadden dike.
After a false start yesterday, we have finally completed the prologue! Now on to Winsum
This is a prologue (or epilogue) to the Pieterpad. Lovely walk with a strong wind and beautiful views
There's nothing like Groningen... that's clear from the views. Arrived in Pieterburen today. The prologue should be the warm-up of the Pieterpad but for now a lot of rain here, on to the sunny south then 😄
Tomorrow our Pieterpad adventure starts. Today we drove to the P + R in Winsum. After a short tour through Winsum and a bite to eat, we had the (last) bus to Pieterburen (at 6:15 PM). The bus stopped right in front of the Village Hall, where we will spend the night. After checking in we ran the prologue... they were quite long straight stretches, but that's nice every now and then. Just enjoy the peace and vastness. On the dike we had a view of the Wadden Sea and enjoyed the many sheep that were grazing. We spent the evening at Hotel Waddengenot, where we watched a practice match of the Dutch National Team (against Canada) 🇨🇦. And in between we also took part in a pub quiz 🎶
