Today we did a guided tour to the new volcano Tajogaite. Up to 150m as the crow flies you will be guided to the edge of the crater. Where this "mountain" is now, there was a "normal" slope before the eruption. The before/after pictures shown to us show the extent. In the 86 days beginning Sept. 21 that the volcano was active, it also formed a destructive lava flow. It covered 1218 hectares and destroyed 1345 houses. At its widest point, the lava cone is 5.5km wide and 80m high
Through the national park, which is covered with up to 1.5 m high ash, we were able to get up to 200 m from the new volcano with a certified guide. The smoke from the chimneys as well as the volcano 🌋 were good to see at times. According to the guide, the 9:00 AM tour has the best view.
Visit to the new volcano on La Palma that erupted in 2021. ATTENTION: This round is currently only accessible with a guide (July 2022)! You won't get onto the closed access road without it! He continues to make sure that all visitors stay on the paths. The entire area is closed for scientific reasons, and dangerous gas accumulations can occur on the volcano! The hike was booked online with Graja-Tours for €35 per person. We were a total of seven participants and our very nice guide spoke German. So he was able to answer all of our questions and also explained a lot about the youngest mountain on the island. The starting point was the restaurant opposite the visitor center of the Caldera de Taburiente near the town of El Paso. From here we drove with a minibus first up to the Llano del Jable to an inconspicuous parking bay. Here we are already standing in the middle of the black-grey volcanic ash that covers the entire region up to several meters high. The evenly covered landscape from which only the treetops partially protrude seems almost unreal. There is nothing left of the former wine terraces. The paths are either simply laid out paths through the volcanic material or the "driveway" of the volcanologists and park rangers. Not a challenge at all, but running does require some energy - imagine running for two hours on a sandy beach where you sink a little with every step. Halfway through the tour you finally get a view of the Tajogaite. We are only a few hundred meters away and can almost touch the volcano. We're not allowed to go any further. This is reserved for researchers. We are looking straight down at the western crater which is slightly below our position. You can clearly see the lava fields that reach into the sea. The rims are all yellow covered with sulphur, while escaping gases are still being blown away by the wind - fascinating. A highly recommended experience. Then we went down to the sea for the first time to wash all the dust off our feet. Now I just need someone to clean my hiking boots...
As part of a booked tour, we took this little tour today (only possible with a guide) to Tajogaite, the new volcano that erupted on La Palma in 2021. The result was impressive pictures and a lot of information about this volcano and volcanism on La Palma and the Canary Islands.
At the moment only guided groups are allowed in the new volcano area.
This tour can only be booked as a guided tour; it is currently not possible to move in this area without a guide.
Today we started with this sign! In sunshine and a light trade wind we entered the current restricted zone. Access is only permitted with a guide... so we went to the Tajogaite volcano in a group of four. The ash from the new eruption is up to 3 meters high and the lava is said to be 80 meters high in places. Unfortunately it was very cloudy, but it was still mystical and beautiful.
In order to see the volcano "Tajogaite", which erupted on La Palma in 2021, you have to join a guided, fee-based tour (€35.00). Otherwise the area is closed and this is also monitored 😔. It was very informative and impressive, but a very dusty affair when it was windy.
