Although I was often on and along the beach in the area, I had never visited this nature reserve of Natuurmonumenten. Until this weekend. Nice to walk here. To see which (unfortunately for me fast) birds are here. I will keep this area in mind to visit in another season/month!
Wanderparkplatz Zwanenwater Zuidschinkeldijk 3 1759JH Callantsoog Netherlands
An afternoon walk through and along the Zwanenwater. We were warned at the entrance for wet feet. But that turned out to be fine. With our kind of shoes. We walked, but also stood still. To look for the woodpecker. To listen to the lark. To identify all those different mosses. To see the first frog jump away, indeed. And to conclude that there is a lot of color, in all that gray, upon closer inspection.
A sunny and yet - because of the wind - quite cool afternoon invited us to visit the nearby Zwanenwater bird sanctuary. At the end of our visit, only two questions remained - how many chicks does a pair of Siberian wild gooses actually have on average across Europe and why didn't Alex want to carry me through the many puddles as well? (Answers that target my body weight are frowned upon) 😅
