Lumberjill Sculpture

Highlight • Structure

This sculpture commemorates the role of women who worked in Britain’s forest during WW2. They were known as "lumberjills" and there were over 9,000 of them. They were recruited from all over the UK and sent to forests where they carried out felling and crosscutting trees by hand, among other very heavy physical jobs.

This one has been put here and presented by the Friends of Dalby Forest, a volunteer organisation working to better the facilities for the visitors to the Forest and to do forestry-related projects.
