This afternoon we drove to Buchberg in Switzerland and parked below the church. We visited it both inside and out. The church burned down completely in 1972 and was rebuilt within two years. From up here, you have a beautiful view down into the valley and onto the Rhine. The panoramic path leads a short distance through the village, then further out onto the meadows. There are various vantage points here for gazing down into the valley; now in spring, this is still easily possible. Soon we reach a hiking highlight, the Marchlinde tree. We looked in vain for a large linden tree, because due to its age and dilapidated condition, it fell victim to a storm in 2023. The mighty trunk (the linden tree was probably at least 500 years old) was not removed and serves as a shelter for insects. Originally, there were two trees here, but the first has been gone since 2007. Two young trees were planted in this spot. March is an old name for border. Next came the Murkathof (Roman coins were found in this area) and the Eichhalde vineyard. Here, the forest opened up to a view toward Eglisau; in the distance, the striking railway viaduct over the Rhine was visible. We walked past the Lindenhof—a playground and farm shop with a local pub—and returned to Buchberg. Once again, we were able to marvel at and admire the lovingly restored old half-timbered houses. We made a wide detour around Buchberg and soon reached the "local mountain," Hurbig. We descended a narrow path into the village and headed for the parking lot. An entertaining walk.
Today, Marina and I, for our hiking group from Aargau, were reconnoitring in the Schaffhausen enclave of Buchberg. We've wanted to do this beautiful panoramic trail since last year, but now it's finally worked out. You can customize the route from 5 to 17 kilometers; there are signposts, shortcuts, and extensions along the way. It's best to plan ahead with Komoot.
This was my fifth time participating in the Swiss Hiking Night. This time, it wasn't run by a cantonal hiking organization, but by the Schaffhausen Regional Nature Park. I know the area well and was therefore very excited about the hiking guides and the supporting program. On the panoramic trail from the Buchberg church, which offers a great view, we enjoyed the wonderful summer evening, learned all sorts of interesting facts about the region (including some new information for me, such as the church fire, the March linden trees, and the decomposition times of various products), and enjoyed excellent food. Many thanks to Beat and Pia - it was a lovely evening! The photos are mixed up (corrected now thanks to Werner's input).

The tour name says it all. We did it today quite spontaneously using Nordic walking. Simply fantastic. The route is so well-planned that you can enjoy a view for 90% of it. Thanks for sharing!
