E1-I4: E1'Day 193 | Tour Day 12 | Sat 19.11.22 Today is arrival day. Always a special moment at the end of a hiking tour. The last stage is short and should end in the cathedral. Because this place is an important milestone for pilgrims on the way to Rome. I didn't like it that much there. Too big, too powerful, too... But I'm not a pilgrim either, I'm an E1 wanderer gone astray. Also the castle and the streets, even the Piazza del Campo - all a little bland. It was probably all because of the rain. And I got cold too. Time to stop hiking! I also found the right place for the ending. More on this at FP: https://findpenguins.com/7jc2jk51k9zyj/footprint/63793fb9c76469-50260411
Pigeon hunting in Siena is still a popular reason to visit the city today. After a few days of peace and quiet, there was a lot of hustle and bustle... but Florence was probably even busier on another day.
Siena, Tuscan beauty, paired with medieval charm, breathtaking architecture, historic alleys, and vibrant culture – a two-hour city tour can only convey a minimal impression of its diversity. This Tuscan city, one of the most powerful cities in central Italy during the Middle Ages, offers visitors an incredible amount of impressions, so that immersing themselves in the bustling alleys and marveling at the magnificent squares and magnificent buildings deserves far more than two hours of attention. The following link describes some of Siena's attractions quite well. https://www.visittuscany.com/de/ideen/10-dinge-die-man-in-siena-unternehmen-kann/ I particularly remember the legend of Siena's naming, which thus gave this city a noble and traditional origin story – similar to the founding of Rome around the brothers Romulus and Remus. Remus was murdered by his brother Romulus after the founding of Rome. Senius and Aschius—Remus' children and exiled from Rome—were forced to flee to avoid their father's fate. During their escape, they encountered a she-wolf, a symbol of the goddess Diana and a marker of their position. Both rode a white and a black horse—the colors of the Siena coat of arms. The brothers founded the city of Siena, named after Senius.
