https://www.wa-wa-we.eu/de/leichte-wander-welt/leichte-wander-welt-details/burg-uda-pfad.html Route description: The 4.2 km circular hiking trail begins directly at a historic cultural monument, "Burg Uda," which was built around 1300 by Dietrich Luf III of Cleves as a fiefdom. He thereby secured his rule in the Niers lowlands. The trail winds along meadows, streams, and tributaries of the Niers River, as well as pools that characterize the landscape of the Niers floodplains. Another cultural monument along the trail is the so-called Dückerhaus (Dücker House). This two-story building with a hipped roof and square towers was first mentioned in historical records in 1515. Formerly the seat of the district administrator of the former Kempen-Krefeld district, the historic building is now privately owned. Special features: The neo-Gothic St. Vitus Church in Oedt is a three-aisled brick pseudo-basilica with a transept, consecrated in 1903. The tower was not completed until 1912 due to a lack of funds. The stained-glass windows and interior paintings were restored between 1994 and 1996. The "traditional windows" depicting the Schützenfest (Marksmen's Festival), Epiphany caroling, and St. Martin's Day are noteworthy. The previous building was first documented in 1170. Along the path are two works of art from the art project of the artist group "SALIX": the winged tree and the 12-meter-high park guard. The flora and fauna: The beaver is back. The trees gnawed by the beaver are striking and unmistakable, some of which resemble matchsticks. With its teeth, the beaver cuts off large splinters just above the ground, creating a conical fracture in the tree. It fells trees to eat bark and foliage, and later uses the trunks and branches to build its burrow, the so-called beaver lodge, or to alter the flow of water. The grey heron, an imposing wading bird, is the heraldic animal of the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. Its relative, the lesser great egret, can only be seen here from October to March. Both species catch more mice than fish over the course of a year. 🐻****************************************🐻 Directions by car 🚗: Oedt parking lot (at the Niersperle RV park) (Navigation: Mühlengasse 6, 47929 Grefrath) 51°19'23.4"N 6°22'35.5"E
