De Witt Lake

Highlight • Lake

To the north of the dam, the larger part of De Wittsee offers opportunities for swimming, sailing and canoeing. The smaller lake in the south, on the other hand, is protected because numerous water birds breed here in spring.

Pollarded willows belong to the Lower Rhine, like the Eiffel Tower to Paris. This path is so typical of the Lower Rhine that you have to have been here.

Beautiful tour, but no longer walkable due to beaver dams and the resulting flooding. See the Wawawe website. No alternative routes have been marked yet.

August 26, 2023, 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 Wasser.Wander.Welt. Premium-Wanderweg Nette Seen

Today I went back to the German-Dutch Maas-Schwalm-Nette Nature Park, which is presented under the ""Water.Wander.World." brand. The first tour of the day was a wonderfully relaxing round in the most beautiful late summer weather around the Nette lakes. https://www.wa-wa-we.eu/de/touren/nette-seen/index.html You can find more from the area in my collection: https://www.komoot.de/collection/1674716/-wasserwanderwelt

We once again enjoyed a hike in the beautiful W-range. We've already done several of them; this time, the W9, the Nette Seen. A beautiful and varied hike, starting from Onnert (Nettetal, Lobberich) around the Wittsee lake. Unfortunately, the water was very green (lots of algae), which made it look a bit less fresh. There are several places along the way for a bite to eat and a drink. This hike has confirmed the W-range's reputation: beautiful walks in the Maas/Schwalm/Nette area.

Today back to our eastern neighbors to make my first walk of the Wasser.Wandern.Welt route. The weather wasn't really good this morning (light rain) but the route was beautiful. And I often wondered along the way, have I now started with the most beautiful route of the 10? Or is this a foretaste of what is yet to come.

On our third day, we found this tour, certified by the hiking institute, to be more of a leisurely stroll. It leads through forest, past fields and meadows and crosses (as is very typical in the area) a number of streams, rivers, lakes and ponds. It all seems very cultivated, calmly comfortable and yet in some places fascinating because of all the water. And as a result, birds, frogs, dragonflies, etc. can be observed, especially at de Wittsee. I can especially recommend the view from the observation tower. It is actually not officially part of the tour, but it is only a small detour of 100 m. And you should visit the NABU Naturschutzhof Nettetal if you are interested in plants. Next to it is a café with a beautiful inner courtyard to sit and relax...I say yes....Sunday walk 😉.

Today we went on the "Nette Seen" premium hiking trail with 8 people. The weather was overcast and yet everyone was there long before the time, something I have rarely experienced. The group enjoyed the great nature, took lots of photos and we chatted a lot. Almost all of the paths were without asphalt, really a tour to enjoy. Almost at the end we stopped for a little refreshment, then we happily headed back to the car park despite the rain starting to fall, where we quickly said goodbye. Great group 👍🏻 who really enjoyed hiking, thank you for coming along.

Late start to the hiking season 25. Nice lakes, but there are definitely nicer routes in the area.
