The Leudal nature reserve is accessible with this path. Typical stream floodplain landscapes on the Tungelroysebeek and the Zelsterbeek accompany the path. Wonderful heathland areas form a beautiful contrast. The St. Ursulamühle and the St. Elisabeth monastery courtyard are culturally and historically significant.

Why do beavers actually cut down trees? This question was already on our minds after just a few meters on the varied hike through the Dutch nature reserve “Leudal”. A number of trees along the floodplain landscape showed the familiar hourglass-shaped feeding marks. Thanks to Google, such issues can now be clarified quickly afterwards: In winter, the vegetarian rodent's menu is naturally no longer as lavish. Tree bark is popular at this time, and in spring the juicy buds of the trees are popular. And because the beaver is not a koala or a monkey and therefore cannot climb, it simply cuts down the trees to get to the bark. If the trees are less than 10 cm in diameter, the hard-working rodents will cut them down within one night. One can imagine that such a tree felling operation is not entirely harmless. To avoid a beaver being killed, beavers always fell a tree alone. In addition to landscaping, aspects of occupational safety are also taken into account. To put it in one sentence, you could also say that beavers bite their way through ✌ But we also really liked this landscape characterized by water. The path leads through the beautiful, typical stream meadow landscape along the course of the "Leubeek" and later along the "Roggelse Beek". The first stop is the former watermill “St. Ursulamühle” or also known as “Leumolen”. We continue to the former monastery courtyard of St. Elisabeth and then to Café Busjop, a fairy-tale place that is said to have been haunted a long time ago 😲The hike then leads through an impressive heathland landscape, as well as through the Langven with its pastures and meadows. The starting and finishing point is the “Leudal” visitor center, located about 10 km outside of Roermond. Many thanks also to @PeterH65 (a.k.a. "Waldorf"), from whom we discovered this hiking tip some time ago. Thanks to @Rosi and @Sus for this lovely day of hiking together. **** *** ** https://youtu.be/LREbCpN_elY
Today we were out and about in beautiful Leudal and did another one of my favorite hikes in the Water.Hiking.World. It's always a beautiful hike, in my opinion, and that's true in every season. We also logged a few kilometers for @Gemeinsam Laufen - Gemeinsam Helfen and the German Children's Hospice. I'd also like to mention my own personal project this year: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2750774763 If you'd like to help, please get in touch. Once again Het Leudal and once again very beautiful. 🤩
The Het Leudal premium hiking trail is a fantastic tour for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts! The trail runs through the picturesque Leudal, a region in Limburg known for its varied landscape. The route meanders along streams, forests and wetlands and offers breathtaking views time and again. The hike itself is well marked and not too demanding, making it suitable for both experienced hikers and beginners. The quieter sections are particularly beautiful, where you can enjoy nature to the fullest. The mix of dense forests, wide meadows and clear streams makes this tour a special experience. What makes the trail particularly special is the diversity of flora and fauna that you can discover during the hike. There are numerous bird species and if you are lucky you can also spot animals such as deer or foxes. Historical elements such as old mills and bridges also provide cultural added value. Overall, the Het Leudal premium hiking trail is a perfect choice for a day trip. It offers peace, nature and a certain challenge without being overwhelming. A clear recommendation for anyone who likes nature walks!
I enjoy hiking with the Eifel Club, especially when I experience such a wonderful, sunny day, such a beautifully varied hike through the landscape, with like-minded, cheerful people! Gitte planned today's route. We start from the parking lot at the Boscafé, walk through the mild, spring-like air, and through the still-sparse forest, mostly following the Leudal Water Trails route. Last year's leaves still cover the ground, but the fresh green of the wild garlic is already pushing its way up towards the light. The Roggelsebeek and Leubeek streams, swollen by the abundant rain of the past few weeks, are free to meander through the valley as they please. Currently, brown heather covers large areas, promising a rich purple in midsummer. The rust-red, withered bracken fern lies flat and protective over the new seedlings lurking beneath... cheerful birdsong fills the air from all directions, and I join in the jubilation, inwardly of course, as I don't want to frighten anyone. To top it all off, there's delicious beer at the Boscafé... what a beautiful day!
Went on a W-W-W with Sandra today, it was lovely as always😃👍.
