This route was planned by komoot.
The Neue Prager Hütte was planned, but the weather didn't get any better along the way, but wetter, colder and windier. So we took the turnoff to the Gletscherweg.
Arithmetically more than 700 meters in altitude. I don't know what this watch is doing... 🤷🏼♀️ It was 823 meters in altitude after all.
This wasn't the first time we've done the tour. It is always an experience. However, the descent is also a challenge.
Today we headed high. Starting point 🅿️ at the Matraier Tauernhaus, we then walked about 4 km along the road through Aussergschlöss to Innergschlöss. From there, we continued about another 1 km towards the glacier, and then the ascent could begin. It took us about 3 hours to reach the glacier. Simply beautiful 😲. After a longer break, we began the descent. We passed the "Eye of God" and the waterfall. Once at the bottom, we went to the Venedigerhaus.
Parking 🅿️ is great, prices are fair. There is also a toilet for €1. We were then driven to the starting point in the "Trekker" - you have to deduct about 8.5 km from the tour. But it was a cool 😎 experience. As for the tour itself, I have to say it was the hardest and most demanding I have done so far. But despite the effort, it was simply great 😍
After yesterday's glacier tour it was clear that one glacier wasn't enough. So today we went straight to the next glacier: the Schlatenkees - the Großvenediger glacier. The starting point was the Matreier Tauernhaus and we walked leisurely along a small path to the height of the Berghaus Aussergschlöß, where we had our first view of the Großvenediger and the Schlatenkees. We went past the beautiful alpine village in the Innergschlöß to the start of the glacier trail in the Innergschlöß. The tough climb up over the former glacier gate was compensated with a great view of the glacier. After a rest at the beautifully situated Salzbodensee and the “Eye of God”, we continued over the glacier grind towards the glacier tongue. If you want to reach the glacier tongue like me, you have to leave the path and find your own way at your own risk and at your own risk. However, when you arrive at the glacier tongue, you will be rewarded with a unique view! After visiting the glacier tongue, we descended towards the Old Prague Hut with some animal accompaniments, with a goat particularly standing out!😅 On the forest path we went over the Innergschlöß and the rock chapel back to the Matreier Tauernhaus. Conclusion: another nice hike to the glacier. Late summer in the high Alps is at its best and it was a real pleasure. Nevertheless: after two glacier hikes, given the weather, it will be time to climb another peak tomorrow and enjoy the panoramic view. Today we headed to the second glacier, the outskirts of the Schlattenkees in the Gschlösstal valley. There, a glacier viewing trail offers an impressive hike through the high mountains. Along the way, you can discover moraines, meltwater streams, and traces of the glacial landscape. Particularly impressive—and at the same time thought-provoking—is the sight of how much the glacier has retreated in recent decades. Where there once was ice, there is now rock and scree. The endless stones of glacial polish are a testament to this! A tour that combines nature experience and knowledge and clearly demonstrates how much our mountain world is changing. If you're interested, you can check out my tours from 2022 and 2023. How much the landscape has changed in just three years is simply astounding!
I was very impressed by wonderful flower meadows, a crystal-clear lake and a spectacular glacial finish.
