Trail Reviews

Rio
May 18, 2023, Stoneman Ardennen 1/23

Goal not quite achieved. After a tear in the rear jacket, it was provisionally blocked halfway through and plenty of milk was let in. Unfortunately, the stopper fell 4 km from the finish line and had to be picked up. Get new tires tomorrow.

The weather forecast was already ruthless: Rain all day with single-digit maximum temperatures. What they didn't tell me: Strong, sometimes gusty winds and many sections of the route flooded. I have rarely been so cold and cursed! But I also survived the last day in the Ardennes without falling. My conclusion about the Stoneman Arduenna after 191.1 km and 4460 meters of altitude: Absolutely worth it! Magnificent landscape, great people, you can really let off steam on the route! Would I do it again? In the middle of a drought, yes. Or as soon as the Belgians have covered the whole thing (and heated it)! And what next? I think I'll go for a recovery run tomorrow😅

After the long stage yesterday, this second one is much shorter. The route is good to ride on my monster crosser, fast on asphalt and gravel, but slower on the technical trails of course. The weather and conditions are perfect, no slippery rocks or tree roots.

Today the motto: rain, rain & rain. A little fight on slippery ground, hence a little "abbreviation" taken - was too risky. Conclusion: the strong bright colors of nature, the gentle hills, meter-high grass along the single trails - repetition desired. 😀☀️👍
